Al was born Christmas Day 1957 to Lawrence and Doris (Dreckman) Kellen. He spent his childhood in LeMars, Iowa, and graduated from LeMars Community High School in 1976.
He went on to marry Debbie Palmer in 1979. They welcomed their son, Eric that November. Tragically, due to complications they lost Eric the next day. In 1981, they welcomed their daughter, Jennifer. Sadly in 1983, Jennifer was taken too soon, as well. Through the course of their marriage, Al and Deb had four more beautiful daughters; Krista, Jamie, Kari and Jenna before ending the marriage.
Al would go on to marry Becky Wagner in January 1995. Becky had five incredible children of her own; Adrienne, Laura, Dillon, Kegan and Mackenzie. They went on to welcome their wonderful, final child Schuylar.
Al was a lifelong trucker and owned his own trucking company. Trucking was his true passion. Over the years he interacted with many customers and other drivers all of which he would leave a lasting impression. His work ethic, kindness, sense of humor and BS'ing skills were second to none.
He was an avid Hawkeye's fan, enjoyed his Black Velvet and eating ice cream with his grandchildren. He was noted for lovingly telling his children to "shut it down!".
Al leaves behind a beautiful legacy of 16 grandchildren, all of whom he loved and treasured dearly. He also leaves behind his trucker family; especially, Scott Chase, Mike Fisher, Randy Solomon and some random dude, Tim Jellema (to whom he still owes money).
He is survived by his loving wife of 27 years Becky, their 10 children; Adrienne Bower, Laura Bower, Krista Kellen, Jamie (Steve) Clair, Dillon Bower, Kari Kellen, Kegan Bower, Jenna (Daniel) Daman, Mackenzie Bower and Schuylar Kellen and his eight siblings and their families.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his children, Eric and Jennifer and brother Scott.
For the umpteenth time children, cool your jets; it'll be fine!
