Obituary

Allen DeVos, 63, of Le Mars, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, September 15, 2024, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Celebration of Life Service will be at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 21, 2024, at Calvin Christian Reformed Church in Le Mars, Iowa. Pastor Brian Hoffman will officiate. Interment will be at a later date in Morrison, Illinois. Visitation with the family present will be from 3:00 p.m. until service time on Saturday at the church. Arrangements are with the Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars. Expressions of sympathy can be extended to the family through www.rexwinkelfh.com.

In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorials can be made in Allen's name, in care of the family, to the Le Mars Dialysis Center.

Allen Dwayne DeVos, the son of Edward Sr and Kay (Van Dyke) DeVos, was born on May 19, 1961, in Rock Valley, Iowa. He grew up in Rock Valley and graduated from Rock Valley High School in 1979. He furthered his education at Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa, where he played on the football team. He was named an All-American his senior year. Following his graduation, he went to work for Wells Dairy in Le Mars.

He was united in marriage to Cindy Rus on September 5, 1987, at Calvin Christian Reformed Church in Le Mars.

Allen worked for 37 years for Wells Dairy. He started in reclaim and later in the warehouse. He was the past Union President for the Wells Employees, and he also served as the compliance and negotiating officer. Allen also drove a limo for Wedding Bells in Le Mars for a few years.

He was a member of Calvin Christian Reformed Church in Le Mars where he was a past deacon. At a young age, Allen was very active in Boy Scouts. He was proud of his accomplishment as an Eagle Scout. His father was one, he was one, and his son, Ryan was one. He enjoyed camping and attending the dog shows that his daughter, Riley, was participating in. Allen loved barbequing. He participated in many barbeque competitions. He was a certified Kansas City Barbeque Society Master Judge for the past 12 years. He was also active in the Backyard BBQ Association of Siouxland.

Survivors include his wife, Cindy, of Le Mars, IA; a daughter, Riley (Lance) Mars of Alton, IA; a son, Ryan DeVos of Le Mars, IA; his sister, Brenda Mauthe of Canton, SD; his brother, Walt (Laura) DeVos of Savannah, MO; his mother in law, Jean Rus Tichler of Morrison, IL; his in laws, Ronda (Terril) DeHaan of Burnsville, MN, and Jim (Erika) Rus of Albany, IL; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin Sr and Kay DeVos; his father in laws, Ron Rus and Harv Tichler; his twin brother, Ed DeVos Jr; and a sister in infancy, Mary Lynn DeVos.
