Allen Arthur Pratt was born on June 24, 1957 to Robert 'Bob' and Patricia 'Pat' (McFarland) Pratt in Le Mars, Iowa. Allen attended Kindergarten and first grade at District 5 Grand Meadow Township School near Washta, Iowa. Their family later moved to Le Mars where Allen attended and graduated from Le Mars Community High School in 1975. Allen then attended trade school for one year. In 1977 Allen along with his father, Bob, began operating R & A Fertilizer. They worked at farms in Plymouth County and the surrounding area until his father retired in 2006. Allen was still actively working in his business.

In 1981, Allen was united in marriage to Sharon Ritchie at Trinity Lutheran Church in rural Hinton, Iowa. They made their home in Le Mars and had two daughters: Alison and Laura.

Allen was a long-time member at the United Methodist Church of Le Mars. He enjoyed reading and watching shows about military history, wild west history, and most recently, warships. He loved motorcycles since he was old enough to ride them. He owned a Harley and made many trips over the years especially to the Black Hills. He also enjoyed working on his classic and antique cars: 1974 Ford Torino and 1951 Ford Custom Coupe.

Allen loved being a grandpa and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He loved to tell jokes and share stories with his family and friends; he also had a very distinctive laugh.

Allen is survived by his wife, Sharon Pratt of Le Mars; two daughters and five grandchildren: Alison (fiancé, Tony Kilde) Pratt and their daughter, Reagan Kilde of Sioux Falls, SD and Laura (Nick) Nicholson and their children: Ethan, Emma, Haley, and Madison of Le Mars; his mother, Pat Pratt of Le Mars; siblings in law: Jerry (Gloria) Ritchie of Solon, IA and Janice (Ed) Fix of Beavercreek, OH; and other extended relatives.

Allen is preceded in death by his father, Bob Pratt; sister, Elizabeth 'Beth' Hodgson; parents in law, Joe and Wilma Ritchie; and siblings in law: Jim Ritchie and Donna (LeRoy) Mowry.
