Ardis Ann Popken, 87 of Hinton, Iowa passed away on Friday, March 27, 2026 at the Good Samaritan Society of Le Mars.

Funeral Service will be at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, March 31, 2026 at Trinity Lutheran Church in rural Hinton, Iowa. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Visitation with the family present will begin at 5:00 p.m., with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m., on Monday, March 30, 2026 at Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars. Ardis Ann Johnson was born on December 17, 1938 in Le Mars, Iowa. She was raised on the family farm near Craig, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in Craig and attended a local country school. She finished her schooling and graduated from Le Mars Community High School.

Ardis worked briefly as a secretary at a radio station and as a shorthand typist for an airline. She was united in marriage to Romain 'Pete' Popken on December 6, 1959 at Grace Lutheran Church in rural Le Mars. They purchased an acreage in rural Hinton where they lived for many years. Ardis stayed home raising their three children: Michael, Julie, and Lori. Ardis was a terrific cook and loved making wonderful meals for her family.

Ardis and Pete joined Trinity Lutheran Church in rural Hinton in 1973 where she was also active in the ladies aide.

Ardis and Pete enjoyed 27 winters in Texas. They also spent many summers at Cutty's in Okoboji where they made many great memories with their grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Ardis enjoyed playing cards, especially bridge, and reading. She loved to knit and made numerous hats, gloves, and scarves over the years that were donated to elementary schools and hospital nurseries.

Ardis is survived by her husband of 66 years, Pete; three children: Michael (Sue) Popken, Julie (Marc) Anfinson, and Lori (Roger) Wenzel; five grandchildren: Jennifer (Jason) Bahr, Jacob (Jade) Popken, Kelsey (Ethan) Kroll, Joseph (Ali) Popken, and Austin (Allayna) Anfinson; seven great grandchildren: Kasey Kroll, Gemma Kroll, Natalie Popken, Oliver Popken, Ila Kroll, Arthur Popken, and Lucy Popken; brother, Loren (Dorothy) Johnson; siblings in law: Bill Popken, Jenean Lescher, Barbara Kunkel, and LeeAnn DeHaan; and other extended relatives.

Ardis is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Oliver Johnson; and siblings in law: Varrel Popken, Rodney Popken, and Gary Popken.
