Obituary

Arnold "Arnie" Bremer , 93, of Akron, Iowa, passed away Saturday, May 15, 2021 at the Akron Care Center in Akron.

Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 21, 2021 at Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Akron.  Pastor Suzi Larson from Wesley United Methodist Church in Akron will officiate.  Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery in Merrill, Iowa.  Visitation with the family present will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 20, 2021 at Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Akron.  Visitation will resume from 10:00 a.m. until service time on Friday at the funeral home.  The funeral will be uploaded to the Rexwinkel Funeral Home website following services.  Arrangements are with the Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Akron.  Expressions of sympathy can be extended to the family through www.rexwinkelfh.com .

Arnold Peter Bremer was born November 26, 1927 in Merrill, Iowa, the son of Herman and Jennie (Mulder) Bremer.  He attended country school near Merrill and high school in Le Mars.  Following his schooling, he began farming in Plymouth County, Iowa.

He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1951.  While on leave from the service, he was united in marriage to Berneice Funk on December 28, 1952 in Le Mars.  While in the service, he was stationed stateside until his honorable discharge.  After returning from the service, he continued farming.

In 1966, they moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado where Arnie worked in construction.  After a few years, they returned to Akron.  He continued working in construction and also worked for the Akron Lumber Company.  Later, he was a maintenance man for the Ridgewood Apartments in Akron.  He also delivered Winnebago RV's for several years, including all the way to Alaska.  Berneice passed away on June 2, 1998.  After his retirement, he continued to make his home in Akron.

He was united in marriage to Patricia Bushman on January 15, 2000.  They continued to make their home in Akron.  In 2004, they became residents of the Ridgewood Apartments in Akron.

Arnie was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Akron.  He was also a member of the Hoschler American Legion Post 186 of Akron.  Arnie enjoyed woodworking, fishing, reading Westerns, and traveling.  He also enjoyed playing bingo and cards.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia of Akron, IA; a son: Doug (Lori) Bremer of Cameron, MO; a daughter: Cheryl (Alan) Vetter of Madrid, IA; a step daughter: Pamela Richards of Dakota Dunes, SD; a son in law: Hal Schuchard of Norwalk, IA; 11 grandchildren: Megan Schuchard, Matthew Schuchard, Carrie Bremer, Jerry Bremer, Susie Bremer, Elizabeth Bremer, Robert Bremer, Micheal Vetter, Jordan Vetter, Ann Thornton, and Jason Richards; 6 great grandchildren; his siblings: Herman (Bev) Bremer of Le Mars, IA, and Mary Anne Herbst of Le Mars, IA; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Berneice; his daughter, Elaine Schuchard; a step son in law, Ken Richards; and a brother in law, Odie Herbst.
