A Funeral Service (with social distancing) will be at 7:00 p.m., Friday, July 24, 2020 at Rexwinkel Funeral Home, 601 Torbert Blvd, Akron, Iowa 51001.

Visitation (with social distancing) with the family present will be from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Friday, July 24, 2020 at the funeral home.

This celebration falls on Audrey's first heavenly birthday. Her family will be providing refreshments and birthday cake in Audrey's honor.

Audrey Kjose, 93 of Akron, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, April 4, 2020 at the Akron Care Center.

Due to state and federal guidance on gatherings due to the COVID-19 pandemic, private family services will be held.  A public Memorial Service will be held at a later date. Burial will be at Brule Creek Cemetery in rural Elk Point, South Dakota. Arrangements are with the Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Akron.  Expressions of sympathy can be extended to the family through www.rexwinkelfh.com .

Audrey Rosamond Kulvik was born on July 24, 1926 at the Akron Hospital to Albert and Rosabel (Lewison) Kulvik.  Audrey's mother passed away when she was only three years old. As the second youngest of her six siblings, Audrey was fostered by a couple in their neighborhood, Oliver and Avyce Groethe. She lived with them for ten years and when she was thirteen, she moved back in with her father and siblings.  Audrey attended Peterson Rural School #73 for eight years and then attended one year of high school. She then started doing housework for local families. In the summer of 1941, Audrey met Vernon Kjose at the Old Settler's Picnic in Elk Point. They dated for three years and were married on September 5, 1944 at St. Paul Lutheran Church near Elk Point.  They made their home a farm near Brule Creek Lutheran Church for a short time and then moved to the Union Creek area on April 16, 1945.  Audrey and Vernon had five children: Karlene, Maxine, Marcelene, Randall, and Selene. Audrey felt so blessed to have such a large and wonderful family.  Vernon passed away on April 21, 1986.  Audrey then moved into Akron on August 28, 1986. She became a resident at the Akron Care Center in the fall of 2019.

Audrey loved to sew; she made many dresses for her daughters, shorts for her son, and many pillows and potholders for family and friends.  She loved to cook, bake, and celebrate the holidays with her family. She loved her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. She enjoyed ballroom dancing, woodworking, gardening and poetry. She was a member of the Cheerful Neighbors Club in rural Union County.  She worked many various jobs over the years: Bishop's Café in Sioux City, Casey's in Akron, the Post Office in Akron, Akron-Westfield Community Schools kitchen and janitorial departments, EPJ School janitorial department, Senior Center in Akron and numerous cleaning jobs at homes in Akron and rural Akron.

Audrey is survived by her children: Karlene Steen of Onawa, IA, Maxine (Wayne) Siemers of Alcester, SD, Randall (Kimberly) Kjose of Oak Grove, MO, Marcelene 'Marcy' (Ron) Hoffman of Westfield, IA, and Selene (Johnny) Van Wyk of rural Alcester, SD;  21 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; 8 great great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and extended relatives.

Audrey is preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Rosabel Kulvik; husband, Vernon Kjose; step mother, Eva (Kissinger) Kulvik; foster parents, Oliver and Avyce Groethe; and siblings: Ronald (Wilma) Kulvik, Hubert (Lorraine) Kulvik, Vernon Kulvik, RueAdene (Rueben) Hovland, and Lorraine (Albert) Egly.
