Bernetta (Wanderscheid) Ernst , 100, of Le Mars, Iowa, was called home by God on Tuesday, March 24, 2020 at her home in Le Mars.

Bernetta Marie Wanderscheid was born September 22, 1919 in Jeffers, Minnesota, the daughter of Martin and Cecelia (Schiltz) Wanderscheid. She was the third child to be born out of 11 brothers and sisters. During her younger years, Bernetta lived in Dell Rapids, SD and moved to Le Mars when she was a teenager.

On February 7, 1939, she married Frank Ernst at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Le Mars. They lived on a farm in rural Plymouth County while raising their three boys. Once the children were grown, they moved into Le Mars. Shortly after Frank passed away in 1988, Bernetta moved to Floyd Valley Apartments.

Bernetta had several hobbies in her life, including fishing, gardening, crossword puzzles, and baking. She volunteered to bake pies for the annual Thanksgiving dinners held at Floyd Valley Apartments for many years. Bernetta also enjoyed playing Bingo, cards, and coloring with friends and family.

Survivors include her sons: Robert (Lois) Ernst and Dennis (Joan) Ernst both of Le Mars; her sister: Rita Bay of Arizona; her brother: Jerome (Peg) Wanderscheid of Texas; as well as numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Frank Ernst; a son and his wife: Ron (Jan) Ernst; her brothers: Paul, Harold, Marty, and Dale; and her sisters: Margaret, Jul, Lizzie, and Mary.
