Betty Lou Blount, 86, of McCook Lake, South Dakota, passed away on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at the Akron Care Center in Akron, Iowa.
A Celebration of Life will be hosted by her family at a later date. Arrangements are with the Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Akron, Iowa. Expressions of sympathy can be extended to the family through www.rexwinkelfh.com.
Betty Lou Stich, the daughter of Paul and Myrtle (Anderson) Stich, was born on November 24, 1939, in Wadena, Minnesota. She lived in Minnesota for 12 years before moving to Wisconsin.
She was united in marriage to Archie Blount on August 8, 1959, in Ettrick, Wisconsin. After their marriage, they moved to the Sioux City area. Betty worked various jobs, including Interbake Foods in North Sioux City for 12 years until her retirement. Archie passed away on June 6, 2000.
Betty's favorite time was spent with her family and friends; she especially loved cooking and hosting family together during the holidays. Betty never met a stranger; she had a way of making everyone feel welcome and loved. Outside of her love for family and friends, she enjoyed coffee, shopping for the best deals, old country western music, a cold beer, and the occasional nickel slot.
Survivors include her children: Kelly (Kelly) Blount of Sioux Falls, SD, Mike (Becky) Blount of Alexandria, SD, Dawn (Ben) Nelson of Dakota Dunes, SD, and Jeff (Christy) Blount of Shakopee, MN; her grandchildren: Jaelyn (Tyler) and their children, Mikkah and Breccan; Jordyn; Quinlan; and Braxton; her sister, LeAnn Porter of Racine, WI; her close friend, Roger Mersch of Elk Point, SD; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Archie Blount; two brothers, Richard Stich and Ronnie Stich; a nephew, David Stich; and a niece, Cathy Porter.
Her family would like to share a special thank you to the entire Akron Care Center staff and their administrator, Tara. We couldn’t thank you enough for the love, compassion, and outstanding care you provided for our mom. Your comforting home environment, along with so many warm smiles, gave our family such peace of mind. Her time at the Akron Care Center was made even more special by her granddaughter, Jaelyn, who was able to help care for Betty.
They also wish to express a sincere thank you to St. Croix Hospice. Missy, Sheila, Liberty, and Amy: your loving care and communication was exceptional and comforting. Also, thank you to Chaplain Richard with St. Croix Hospice who visited her weekly, sang hymns, and prayed for her.
