Bonnie Macklem , 88, of Merrill, Iowa passed away Saturday, November 13, 2021 at her home in Merrill surrounded by her family.

Celebration of Life Service will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 27, 2021 at Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars. Visitation with the family present will be from 9:30 a.m. until service time and following the service at the reception held at the funeral home. Private family burial will be Hillside Cemetery in Merrill. Arrangements are with the Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars. Expressions of sympathy can be extended to the family through www.rexwinkelfh.com .

Bonnie Jean McLain was born July 31, 1933 in Sioux City, Iowa, the daughter of James and Eleanor (Craft) McLain.  She attended school in the Sioux City area.

She was united in marriage to Walter Macklem on August 26, 1950 at the Hinton United Methodist Church. The couple made their home in Merrill. Before starting their family, Bonnie worked for Zenith in Sioux City. After raising her family, she went to work as a cook for Le Mars Community Schools until her retirement. Walter passed away April 28, 2012. Bonnie continued to make her home in Merrill.

She was a member of Grace Evangelical Church in Hinton. She enjoyed having coffee with the "ladies". She also enjoyed playing cards with her friends and family. Bonnie's favorite time of year was Christmas. She loved attending her grandchildren's and great grandchildren's activities and events.

Survivors include 3 children: a son, Doug (Paula) Macklem of Terre Haute, IN and their children, Weston and Jamie; a daughter, Mary (Terry) Guffy of Bronson, IA, and their children, Stacy and Travis; and a daughter, Susan (Pat) Birks of Sioux City, IA, and their children, Stephanie and Ashley; 8 great grandchildren: Hannah, Karsin, Brenick, Briar, Lauren, Avery, Brenna, and Masin; a great great grandson, Kason; her sister: Janice (Leslie) Schindel of Hinton, IA; a brother in law, Ron (Andy) Macklem of Minneapolis, MN; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Walter Macklem, and a granddaughter, Cristy Guffy.
