Carey was born, October 11, 1953, to parents, Donald and Shirley Banks, at the Akron Community Hospital. Carey began farming (crops and livestock), as a preschooler and continued throughout his life. Carey was united in marriage to Helen Birkley on November 3, 1972 in Akron, Iowa.

Not only was farming his life work, it was his vacation time! Favorites were planting, feeding cattle, combining, spraying in the pasture, working (destructively) with his Bobcat, and driving his Dually. He appreciated Nature, the Loess Hills wild grasses and flowers, oak trees, birds, Big Sioux River, and Broken Kettle Creek. Because of his amiability, his willingness to help someone, his sense of humor, and his contagious laughter, Carey had many friends.

Carey is survived by his father, Donald Banks; daughter, Tracy (Jerod) Welch, son, Quentin (Julie) Banks; granddaughter, Ali Welch; grandsons, Tyler (Devynn) Banks and Colby Banks; step- granddaughter, Samantha Rahn; step-grandsons, Ryan and Nate Sturgeon; great-granddaughter, Jayden Banks; sisters, Sheryl Banks and Becky Muir; friend, Connie Benson and her children: Nikki LaScala, Matt LaScala, and Sara Thompson; and his beloved dogs: Harley, Sadie, and Brody.

Those who preceded him, in death, are his mother, Shirley Banks; wife, Helen Banks; daughter, Brenda Banks; and brother in law, Mike Muir.
