Carol Allaway, 74 of Akron, IA, passed away on Tuesday, August 12, 2025 at her home in Akron surrounded by her family.

Memorial Service will be 5:00 p.m., Sunday, August 17, 2025 at Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Akron, IA. Visitation with the family present will begin at 2:00 p.m. and will continue until the service time on Sunday at the funeral home.

Carol Ann Carlson was born on October 26, 1950 in Sioux City, IA to Clifford and Gloria (Boulden) Carlson. She was raised in Sioux City and graduated from Central High School in 1969. Carol was united in marriage to Donald Dean Allaway Jr on September 5, 1970 and they first made their home in Sioux City.

Don enlisted in the United States Air Force and their family moved to Wichita, KS, Wichita Falls, TX, Las Vegas, NV, and back to Sioux City, IA. They then moved to Corpus Christi, TX for a few years before moving to Akron, IA in 1986. Carol was primarily a homemaker and raised their three children: Donald Dean III, Andy and Sara.

Carol offered childcare services in her home for many years and worked for Coil Craft in Hawarden for about 10 years.

Carol enjoyed reading and playing cards. She loved to go shopping and she was a wonderful baker, always making her desserts from scratch. She enjoyed traveling to see family, especially when they spent time in Florida. Carol recently took a special trip with her daughter to Milwaukee, WI to celebrate a family graduation and wedding anniversary. Her favorite time was spent with and spoiling her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Carol is survived by her three children: Don (Tammy) Allaway of Le Mars, IA, Andy Allaway of Westfield, IA, and Sara (Kelly) Ver Hoeven of Hawarden, IA; seven grandchildren: Marissa (Michael) Nelson and their two children: Logan and Karlie, Donald 'Donny' Dean IV (Heather) Allaway and their son: Thomas 'TJ', Justin Allaway, Dylan Ver Hoeven, Kaleb Ver Hoeven, Lilly Allaway, and Mia Allaway; sister, Sandy (Ron) Clarstrom of Kansas City, MO; sister in law, Jeanne Hurteua of Florida; nieces, nephews, and other extended relatives.

Carol is preceded in death by her parents; husband Don Allaway Jr,  parents in law, Donald Sr. and Avis (Boni) Allaway; sisters: Judy (Don) Most and Bonnie (Denny) Molden; siblings-in-law: Jim Allaway and Debbie Phillips; and nephew, Brian McCormick.
