Carol Pies, 80 of Akron, Iowa, passed away on Monday, October 23, 2023 at Floyd Valley Healthcare in Le Mars.

Carol Frances Blake was born to Kenneth and Helen (Determann) Blake on November 30, 1942 in Iowa. She was raised in Akron and graduated from Akron High School in 1961. Carol moved to Oregon for a few years and moved back to Iowa in 1976. She then attended WIT and graduated as an LPN. She worked on the medical surgical floor at St. Luke's in Sioux City for over 20 years. Carol loved being a nurse and caring for others.

Carol was united in marriage to Robert 'Bob' Pies in 1979 in Elk Point, SD and they made their home in Akron. Carol was a member at First Church of Christ in Akron until it closed; she then joined the First Baptist Church in Akron where she was an active member and enjoyed leading and going to Bible Study. She also enjoyed her 'card ministry' where she would send cards to church members for every occasion: birthdays, baptisms, anniversaries, new members, and more.

Carol was very talented at needlework; she embroidered, crocheted, but most often could be found knitting. She knitted various items over the years: clothing, blankets, outerwear, and many pairs of slippers. She also enjoyed volunteering at the Akron Public Library.

Carol is survived by her husband, Bob Pies; four children: Liane (Charles) Jerry, Timothy (Maria) Kroll, Matthew Jensen, and Kenneth 'Sam' (Kristie) Kroll; grandchildren: Jonathan, Liana, Grace, Cescel, Vada, Rickie Lee, Jeremieh, Daniel James, Madelyn, Carter, Braeden, and Cadmin Kroll; 13 great grandchildren; siblings: Wayne (Gina) Blake, Beth (Ed) Terpstra, and Mike (Carol) Blake; special niece, Nikki Blake; and other extended relatives.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents; still born daughter, Helen Louise; and brother, Arden Blake.
