Charles Melvin Johnson, the son of Melvin and Lois (Utesch) Johnson, was born on September 1, 1959, in Le Mars, Iowa. He attended grade school in Craig and high school in Le Mars. He graduated from Le Mars Central High School. Following his schooling, he began farming and feeding hogs in Grant Township, rural Plymouth County, IA. He also worked for the Farmers Coop in Ireton and Sioux Center for over 30 years.

He was united in marriage to Susan Schlesser on February 20, 1982, at St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars. Together they were blessed with two daughters, Melanie and Megan, who were his greatest pride and joy. A devoted husband, he cherished his family deeply. Susan, his wife of 28 years, passed away on April 11, 2010.

Chuck was a hardworking, kind and generous man, always willing to help those in need. A dedicated blood donor, he made giving back to others a priority. He had a deep appreciation for history and stayed well-informed on both domestic and world affairs, something he enjoyed discussing with his daughters. A sports fan, he especially enjoyed football and basketball, as well as watching NASCAR, even attending several races over the years. He was handy and could teach himself to do almost anything, especially with the help of YouTube. In recent years, especially after retiring from the Coop, he enjoyed completing home improvement projects.

In 2011, he met Dawn Norton, his devoted partner of fourteen years.  Together, they found joy experiencing new adventures together and traveling, especially when it meant spending time with his cherished daughters and grandchildren. Spoiling his three young grandkids brought him much joy. Always an animal lover, he leaves behind his best buddy Charlie, a dog he shared with Dawn, and three cats.

Survivors include a daughter, Melanie (Michael Greenstein) Johnson of Northbrook, IL, and their children, Charlotte and Ira; a daughter, Megan Johnson-Gott (Isaac Gott) of Coralville, IA, and their daughter, Genevieve; his significant other, Dawn Norton of Sioux City, IA, and her family, Michelle Pineda of Cherokee, IA, and Logan Norton of Tea, South Dakota; his siblings: Bob (Sharon) Johnson and Mike Johnson; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Lois Johnson; and his wife, Susan Johnson.
