Obituary

Cindy (Oehlerking) Schlichte , 68, of Le Mars, Iowa, passed away unexpectedly Friday, October 23, 2020 at her home near Le Mars.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 27, 2020 at All Saints Catholic Parish – St. Joseph Church in Le Mars. Social distancing and wearing a mask are required. Father Travis Crotty will celebrate Mass. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation with the family present will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, October 26, 2020 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Le Mars. There will be a Parish Rosary at 5:00 p.m. and Scriptural Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. Social distancing and wearing are mask are required. Visitation will resume from 9:30 a.m. until service time on Tuesday at the church. Arrangements are with the Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars. Cindy Lee Oehlerking was born December 4, 1951 in Sioux City, Iowa, the daughter of William and Janice (Ziesler) Oehlerking. She grew on a farm near Lawton, Iowa. She attended school in Lawton until moving to Sioux City. She graduated from East High School in Sioux City.

Following high school, she moved to Washington, D.C. where she worked for the Federal Bureau of Investigation for two months. She returned to Sioux City and worked as a waitress.

She was united in marriage to Dennis Schlichte on November 11, 1972 at St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars. They made their home on a farm near Craig, Iowa. Cindy helped with planting and harvesting and raising sheep. She also worked as a waitress for Archie's Waeside in Le Mars for over 35 years. In 1993, they moved to a farm north of Brunsville, Iowa.

Cindy was a member of All Saints Catholic Parish in Le Mars. She enjoyed sewing and quilting. She sewed "Angel Gowns" for stillborn children and donated them to area hospitals. She was very artistic and used this trait when doing woodworking projects. She enjoyed baking Christmas cookies for her family and friends. She also enjoyed playing scrabble and euchre and taking annual trips to Branson. Most of all, she loved the time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband, Dennis of Le Mars, IA; 3 children and their families: Jason (Courtney) Schlichte of Bettendorf, IA, and their children, Connor and Caleigh; Chad Schlichte of Omaha, NE, and his daughter, Hanna; and Jill Nielsen of Le Mars, IA, and her children, Mason, Gabrielle, and Liam; her siblings: Sherry Willson of Pierson, IA, and Randy Oehlerking of Sioux City, IA; her in laws: Jeannine Schlichte of Le Mars, IA, Jerry (Nancy) Schlichte of Brunsville, IA, Bill (Beth) Schlichte of Le Mars, IA, Joyce Ludwigs of Craig, IA, Cindy (Berner) Schlichte of Merrill, IA, Renette Oehlerking of Sloan, IA, and Pat Oehlerking of Lawton, IA; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Janice Oehlerking; her father and mother in law, Greg and Alice Schlichte; two brothers, Kenny Oehlerking and William Oehlerking; and siblings in laws, Ken Schlichte, Barry Ludwigs, Karen Schlichte in infancy, Marilyn Oehlerking and Keith Willson.
