Dakota Acevedo

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the loss of Dakota ‘Dickie’ Acevedo. Dakota passed at Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD following a tragic motorcycle accident on June 6, 2026. At only 33 years old, Dakota passed away with his fiancée, Megan Dimmick, by his side.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 7:00 p.m., Thursday, June 18, 2026 at Rexwinkel Funeral Home of Le Mars. Visitation with the family present will begin at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 18, 2026 at the funeral home.

Dakota was born on November 28, 1992 in Salinas, California. Around the age of two, Dakota and his family relocated to Iowa where he pursued his education and graduated in 2011 from Central Lyon High School in Rock Rapids, Iowa.

Dakota devoted most of his working years to being a foreman and laying communication with H&D Underground and Grindstone Utilities. In 2023, Dakota chose to take a different career path and began working as a diesel mechanic at Anthony’s P& L Inc. As of 2025, Dakota spread his wings and started his own repair shop, ACC Mechanics & Repair. He was also in the process of beginning a trucking company, Double Ace Hauling LLC. Dakota took great pride and joy in the work he did as a diesel mechanic.

In his spare time, he enjoyed spending his time outdoors: riding his motorcycle, going fishing, and golfing. He kept busy with finding mechanical projects that needing some fixing or rebuilding. He loved spending time with his family; Dakota was a devoted father and partner. He specialized in keeping Megan on her toes and proving a caring and dependable home for his children. He leaves his family with a legacy that showed the importance of a strong work ethic, independence, and determination to succeed. Dakota was always willing to lend a hand to anyone who crossed his path.

Dakota will be loving remembered and deeply missed by Megan Dimmick; his children: Journey, Chesney, Jameson, Oaklyn, and Jaxston, all of Le Mars, Iowa; Megan’s parents, Jeff and Laura Dimmick of Le Mars; Dakota's grandma, Denise Drake of Le Mars; Megan’s siblings and their families: Zach and April Dimmick and their son, Bentley, of Le Mars, Jeremy and Trisha Stoeber and their son, Chase, of Le Mars; Dakota’s father, Alex Acevedo Jr of Salinas, CA; his siblings: Kylie Acevedo and Alexis Acevedo of Salinas, CA, and Isaiah and CJ Drake, and their children, Raistlin and Mikyah, of Vernal, UT; and many more aunts, uncles, cousins, other extended relatives, and friends.

Dakota is preceded in death by his grandfathers, Steven Drake and Alex Acevedo Sr as well as other extended relatives.

Dakota’s family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers at Floyd Valley Hospital, Le Mars Fire and Rescue EMTs, the Life Flight team, Sanford Medical Center staff, and especially to the compassionate individual who witnessed the incident and immediately began CPR, for their exceptional care and kindness during this difficult time.
