Darlene (Ruhland) Feller , 92, of Le Mars, Iowa, passed away peacefully Sunday, April 26, 2020 in Le Mars surrounded by her family.

Due to state and federal guidance on gatherings due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a private family service will take place at Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars.  Father Bruce Lawler will officiate.  Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery – Neptune, rural Hinton, Iowa.  Public viewing, with no family present, and limited to 10 people at a time practicing social distancing, will be at the Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 30, 2020.  Arrangements are with the Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars.  Expressions of sympathy can be extended to the family through www.rexwinkelfh.com .

Darlene Dorothy Smith was born December 22, 1927 in Le Mars, Iowa, the daughter of Leslie and Pearl (Barnes) Smith.  She grew up in the Le Mars area and graduated from Le Mars Central High School in 1945.

She was united in marriage to Virgil Ruhland on November 24, 1946 and from this marriage, they raised five children together.  Virgil passed away in August of 1979.

Darlene was united in marriage to LaVerne Feller on July 20, 1985 and they made their home near Brunsville, Iowa.

Darlene was very involved in the Catholic church and her faith was very close to her heart.  She enjoyed spending time with her family, fishing, gardening, traveling, playing cards, and introducing her grandkids to bingo.  However, her favorite past time was playing the slots at the boat and WinnaVegas.  She will be forever remembered for her love of photography and learning how to use an iPhone at 90 years old.

Survivors include her husband, LaVerne of Kansas City, MO; her five children, Blue (Rebecca) Ruhland of Gulf Shores, AL, Norbert (Pat) Ruhland of McCook Lake, SD, Jeannine (Arnold) Keunen of Le Mars, IA, Annette (Gayle) Sitzmann of rural Le Mars, IA, and JoAnn (Leo) Langel of Le Mars, IA; her step children: Michelle (Marland) Mortensen of Basehor, KS, Mike (Lori) Feller of Le Mars, IA, and Johnathan (Andrea) Feller of Longview, WA.  She was blessed to have 22 grandchildren, 58 great-grandchildren, and 10 great great-grandchildren.  She also had 3 stepchildren and several step grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Virgil Ruhland; her parents, Leslie and Pearl Smith; her in laws, Norbert and Christina Ruhland; a great grandson, Brett Ruhland in infancy; and a great great-grandson, Royce Fisher – 9 years old.
