Darlene (Sitzmann) Koopman , 93, of Le Mars, Iowa, passed away Friday, July 17, 2020 at the Good Samaritan Society of Le Mars.

Private Family Mass of Christian Burial will be on Wednesday, July 22, 2020 at All Saints Catholic Parish – St. Joseph Church in Le Mars. Reverend Bruce Lawler will celebrate Mass. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation with the family present, practicing social distancing and wearing masks, will be from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 21, 2020 at Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars. There will be a Catholic Daughters Rosary at 4:00 p.m. and a Scriptural Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. Arrangements are with the Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars. Darlene Mary Sitzmann was born September 7, 1926 in Le Mars, Iowa, the daughter of Edwin and Irene (Nugent) Sitzmann. She attended school at St. Joseph Catholic School in Le Mars until the 10 th grade. She graduated from Le Mars Central High School.

She was united in marriage to Elwood "Bud" Koopman on August 26, 1947 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Le Mars. They farmed in Plymouth County, Iowa for several years. Darlene also worked for the Farmer's Home Administration and Bomgaars in Le Mars for several years. Bud passed away unexpectedly on October 19, 1981. Darlene continued to make her home on the farm until 1993, when she moved to Le Mars. After moving to Le Mars, she worked as a bookkeeper and secretary for Sue Betsworth Accounting until retiring. In February of 2019, she became a resident of the Good Samaritan Society of Le Mars.

She was a member of All Saints Catholic Parish in Le Mars and active in Catholic Daughters for many years. Darlene enjoyed playing cards, feeding and watching birds, and putting jigsaw puzzles together. She also enjoyed fishing, especially at Lake Shetek in Minnesota. She will be remembered for her baking, especially her pies and buttermilk brownies. She loved Christmas and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Survivors include her daughter, Linda Hughes of Tega Cay, SC; her son, Bill (Kris) Koopman of Le Mars, IA; 6 grandchildren: Kevin Hughes, Katie (Mario) Osorio, Mollie (Hal) Rogers, Mindy (Toby) Scheitler, Kari Jurgensen, and Jessica (Aaron) Culler; her brother, Father Eugene Sitzmann of Cherokee, IA; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Edwin and Irene Sitzmann; her husband, Elwood "Bud" Koopman; her son in law, John Hughes; and two brothers, Harold (Shirley) Sitzmann and Merlin Sitzmann.
