David Scott Olson, 55 of Akron, Iowa, passed away on Monday, December 8, 2025 at UnityPoint Health-St. Luke's-Downtown in Sioux City, Iowa.
Funeral Service will be 1:00 p.m., Monday, December 15, 2025 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Akron, Iowa. Visitation with the family present will be from 3:00 - 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 14, 2025 at Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Akron. Visitation will continue from noon until 12:45 p.m. on Monday at the church. Expressions of sympathy may be expressed to the family through www.rexwinkelfh.com.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Akron Opera House in Akron.
David Scott Olson was born on August 16, 1970 in Hawarden, Iowa to Jerome 'Jerry' and Hyla (Sherard) Olson. He grew up in Akron and graduated from Akron-Westfield High School in 1989. He continued his education at the University of South Dakota in Vermillion and graduated in 1994 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education. Dave's work history included teaching at Hinton Community High School, working at Sportsman's in Sioux City, Masaba and Heyl Truck Lines in Akron, and for Stan Houston Equipment in Sioux City.
Dave retired in 2020 and began spending his time at the Lazy H Campgrounds as the 'camp concierge.' Dave, known as Bubba to his friends and campground guests, made fast friends with all those he encountered. He made many long-time friends from all over at the campground.
Dave loved music and was a talented musician. He was selected all four years for All State Choir in high school and played the tuba at USD. He participated in many plays and musicals at the historic Akron Opera House as well as the Sioux City Community Theatre. Dave and Angela enjoyed traveling to attend musicals.
Dave enjoyed golfing, darts, and cheering on the Minnesota Vikings. He loved animals and had several beloved canine companions over the years.
Dave is survived by his partner, Angela Olson Sorenson; brother, Douglas (Kerrie) Olson of Akron; nephew, Spencer Olson; nieces: Natalie & Kenda Olson; uncle, Stanley Skattum; many cousins, godchildren, other extended relatives, and friends.
Dave is preceded in death by his parents, Jerry and Hyla Olson.
