David Plueger, 60 of Sioux City and formerly of Le Mars, Iowa, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, July 8, 2021 at Unity Point - St. Luke's Hospital in Sioux City.
Memorial Service will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, July 15, 2021 at Rejoice Community Church in Le Mars, Iowa. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux City, Iowa. Visitation with the family present will begin at 4:00 p.m., with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m., all on Wednesday, July 14, 2021 at Rejoice Community Church. Arrangements are with Rexwinkel Funeral Home of Le Mars. Expressions of sympathy may be expressed to the family through www.rexwinkelfh.com .
David Darrell Plueger was born on January 30, 1961 to Darrell and Darlene (Cassens) Plueger in Akron, Iowa. Dave grew up in Akron and graduated from Akron High School in 1979. Dave then enlisted in the United States Air Force and attended basic training in San Antonio, Texas. He was then stationed in Biloxi, MS, Omaha, NE, and Columbus, NE. Dave was honorably discharged in 1987 after 8 years in the Air Force. He was united in marriage to Kim Moore on October 1, 1983 at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Preston Township, rural Akron. After his discharge, they moved to Akron where Dave worked at the Plueger Co-op stations in Spink, SD and Akron, IA. In 1998, he began working for Wells Blue Bunny in Le Mars and they moved to Le Mars shortly after. Dave also raised hogs from 1990-1998 with Harry O'Connor. In 2000, Dave then went to work for Executive Technologies in Sioux City, Iowa. He worked in management and sales before he retired in 2019.
Dave was a long time member of Rejoice Community Church in Le Mars where he served as an elder. He also was a member of Heeren-McHale-Wilkens American Legion Post 724 in Brunsville, Iowa. Dave loved watching football, especially when cheering for his favorite team the LA Rams. He also enjoyed repairing vehicles and working in his vegetable garden. He was an excellent cook; his best dishes were his lasagna and apple crisp. His favorite time was spent with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Dave is survived by his sons: Troy (Angela) Plueger of Sioux City, IA and Tristen (Kelli) Jackson of Sioux Falls, SD; grandchildren: Maya Plueger, Addy Plueger, and Teagan Jackson; siblings: Ron Plueger, Bev (Walt) Wendel, Randy (Marla) Plueger, and Deb (Doug) Boetger; brother in law, Dean Varenhorst; siblings in law: Bob (Lisa) Moore, Dawn Grosvenor, Kevin Grosvenor, Tonya Jackson, and Orlando Jackson; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and other extended relatives.
Dave is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Kim; sister, Jeanne Varenhorst; infant brother; maternal grandparents, Henry and Flora Cassens; and paternal grandparents, Henry and Alma Plueger.
