David Varenhorst, 68, of Le Mars, Iowa, passed away Friday, March 1, 2024 at the Good Samaritan Society of Le Mars.

Funeral services will be at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, March 4, 2024, at Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars. Reverend Dr. Jean Ziettlow will officiate. Private family burial will at Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars.  Visitation with the family present will be from 5:00 p.m. until service time on Monday at the funeral home. David Henry Varenhorst, the son of Elmer and Cleone (Peters) Varenhorst, was born on January 3, 1956, in Le Mars, Iowa. He grew up on a farm west of Le Mars. He attended school in Le Mars and graduated from Le Mars Community High School in 1975.

Following high school, he worked various jobs in Le Mars. He worked for Life Skills Training Center in Le Mars and later in the kitchen at Westmar College.

He moved to Le Mars in 1991. He enjoyed living in his condo for the last 30 years.

He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church – Johnson Township, rural Merrill, Iowa. He enjoyed riding his 3-wheeler. He also enjoyed eating at Lally's Eastside in Le Mars. Listening to Johnny Cash music and watching television were also things he enjoyed.

Survivors include his brother, Dan (Cherie) Varenhorst of Le Mars; a nephew: Matt (Kellie) Varenhorst of Le Mars and their children: Madison, Everlynn, Henry, Jack, and Loren; a niece: Lisa Varenhorst (fiancé, Scott Ulerich) of Sioux Falls, SD, and her children: Dev, Strader, and Aleyha; a nephew: Kent (Samantha) Varenhorst of Le Mars and their children: Brooklyn, Eden, and James; his aunt, Lois Varenhorst of Le Mars; and several cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Cleone Varenhorst.
