Dellas "Hoot" Gibson , 78, of Le Mars, Iowa, passed away Thursday, November 18, 2021 at his home in Le Mars.

Dellas Kirk Gibson was born August 4, 1943 in Shenandoah, Iowa, the son of William and Ruth (Henn) Gibson.  He grew up in Southwest Iowa and graduated from Essex High School in Essex, Iowa.

Following his schooling, he began working various jobs including construction until beginning his over 50-year career as an over the road truck driver.  After living in Iowa, he moved to Colorado and continued trucking. He began working for Mason Transportation of Evergreen, Colorado. This is where he met his wife as she also worked for Mason.

He was united in marriage to Machele Rieke on June 9, 1990 in Wheatridge, Colorado.  They made their home in Colorado for several years before Hoot got transferred to Baltimore, Maryland.  They lived there for a year before moving to Le Mars, Iowa.  Dellas began driving for Schuster Trucking until his retirement.  He was honored and proud to receive the "Driver of the Year" award in 2014.

He enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and especially enjoyed the wonderful sights and sounds of Montana.  He also enjoyed tinkering with equipment and sharing driving stories with Brent.  He could also be seen reading Tom Clancy novels.

Survivors include his wife, Machele; a son, Brent; 4  daughters, Donna, Jenette, Cindy, and Sandy; his brother, William Gibson; a sister, Candice Peek; and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his father and mother in law, Charles and Vivian Rieke; a brother in law, Don Peek; and a sister in law, Joyce Gibson.
