Dennis Baldwin , 71, of Merrill, Iowa, passed away Sunday, March 19, 2023, at his home near Merrill surrounded by his family.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 23, 2023, at Adaville United Methodist Church, rural Merrill, Iowa. Pastor Berth Lundula will officiate. Burial will follow at the Pleasant Valley Cemetery - Adaville, rural Merrill, Iowa. Visitation will begin at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 22, 2023, at Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars. The family will be present at 5:00 p.m. There will be a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will resume from 9:30 a.m. until service time on Thursday at the church. Arrangements are with the Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars. Expressions of sympathy can be extended to the family through www.rexwinkelfh.com .
Dennis Lowell Baldwin, the son of Lowell and Joyce (Rollins) Baldwin, was born April 19, 1951 in Akron, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed at Adaville United Methodist Church. He began his schooling at Liberty Township Country School. After it's closing, he attended school in Hinton and graduated from Hinton High School in 1969. He furthered his education at Westmar College in Le Mars and graduated in 1973. Following college, he began farming with his father.
He was united in marriage to Debra Brink on February 20, 1977, at the Community Presbyterian Church in Lawton, Iowa. The couple made their home on a farm west of Merrill. Denny farmed and raised sheep and feeder pigs for many years. He also enjoyed helping Albert Schultz at the Le Mars Toy Store for many years.
Denny was a lifelong member of Adaville United Methodist Church and served in many capacities. He was a former council president, head usher, and trustee. He was also a former board member for Plymouth County Farm Bureau and served as president in 1999. He served as a trustee on the Liberty Township Board for many years and served on the 4-H youth committee for 9 years. He loved the Plymouth County Fair. He was a board member for 2 terms and was on the Sheep Committee at the fair for 22 years. In 2015, he was inducted into the Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame. Denny enjoyed coaching his daughter in basketball and softball. Later on, Denny officiated basketball and a was an umpire for softball for many years. He was an avid sports fan. He enjoyed watching the New York Yankees, Minnesota Vikings, and the Iowa Hawkeyes! His greatest joy was his family, especially his children and grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of over 46 years, Deb of Merrill; a son: Chad Baldwin (Michelle Perry) of Clark, MO, and his children: Cory Bates, Cody Bates, and Jase Baldwin; a son: Ryan Baldwin (Krista Schultze) of Hinton, IA, and their children: Madelyn Boehm, Braden Boehm, and Kaisen Baldwin; a daughter: Tami Boyle of Sioux Falls, SD, and her children: Mazie Boyle and Kenedee Boyle; a brother: Doug (Brenda) Baldwin of Le Mars, IA; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Cheryle Herman; paternal grandparents: Lloyd and Marie Baldwin; and maternal grandparents: Alva and Myra Rollins.
