Dennis Britt , 70, of Le Mars, Iowa, passed away Saturday, April 25, 2020 at Unity Point Health – St Luke's in Sioux City, Iowa.
Due to state and federal guidance on gatherings due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a public Memorial Mass will take place at a later date at St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Oyens. A private family graveside service will take place at St. Catherine's Catholic Cemetery in Oyens, Iowa. Reverend Bill McCarthy will officiate. Military honor will be provided by the Wasmer American Legion Post 241 in Le Mars and the V.F.W. Post 3328 in Remsen. Public viewing, with no family present, and limited to 10 people at a time practicing social distancing, will be at the Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 29, 2020. Arrangements are with the Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars. Expressions of sympathy can be extended to the family through www.rexwinkelfh.com .
Dennis Michael Britt was born September 8, 1949 in Le Mars, Iowa, the son of Vernon "Bud" and Marie (Roeser) Britt. He attended country school in Plymouth County, Iowa and graduated from Le Mars Community High School in 1967.
He farmed with his dad until he left for the Air National Guard on October 19, 1967. He was activated in January of 1968 over the Pueblo Crisis. He went to Vietnam with the 174 th Fight Wing in May of 1968 and returned in May of 1969. He was honorably discharged in 1972.
While on leave from the service, he married his high school sweetheart, Joyce Reisteroffer on June 13, 1970.
After his discharge, he continued to farm. In 1973, he returned to the 185 th Air Guard in Sioux City. He retired from the Guard with an honorable discharge in 2003 after 35 years of service. After farming for 45 years, he retired in March of 2015.
He was a lifetime member of the Veteran of Foreign Wars Post 3328 in Remsen and a member of the Wasmer American Legion Post 241 in Le Mars. He worked with the A.S.C.S. office for 10 years. He served as a trustee for American Township for many years. He enjoyed farming, restoring old tractors, camping, golfing, and fishing. Most of all, he loved the time spent with family, especially his grandchildren, and his friends.
Survivors include his wife of nearly 50 years, Joyce of Le Mars; his children: Michael (Shannon) Britt of Watertown, SD, Tammy (Ray) Davis of Le Mars, Ron (Andrea) Britt of Le Mars, Tim Britt (Katy Crawford) of Le Mars, and Corey (Louise) Britt of Allendale, MI; 13 grandchildren; a brother: Randy (Sheila) Britt of Le Mars; a sister: Carol (Doug) Ryan of Kingsley, IA; and several in laws, nieces, and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bud and Marie Britt; a sister, Carla Nelson; a brother, Gerald Britt; a nephew, Christopher Cloud; and in laws, Don and Bonnie Reisteroffer.
