Dolores (Sitzmann) Lake, 100, passed away on Tuesday, July 21, 2026 at Sunrise Retirement Community in Sioux City, Iowa.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, July 23, 2026 at All Saints Parish – St. Joseph Catholic Church with Reverend Bruce Lawler officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery – Neptune, rural Hinton, Iowa. Visitation with the family present will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday at the church and will continue until the service time. Arrangements are with Rexwinkel Funeral Home of Le Mars.

Memorials may be directed to Sunrise Retirement Community.

Dolores Jane Eberhard was born on April 19, 1926, the only child of Carl and Marjorie (Woodley) Eberhard. Dolores attended country schools in Plymouth County and graduated in 1943 from Hinton High School. Dolores married Don Sitzmann in 1946 at St. Joseph Catholic Church – Neptune. Dolores was a farm wife and homemaker. She enjoyed dancing, crossword puzzles, and playing cards in several card clubs. She had been an active parish member at St. Joseph – Neptune, Bless Sacrament in Sioux City, and All Saints Parish in Le Mars.

After her husband’s death in 1993, she remained on the farm until 1999 when she moved to Sioux City to be closer to her children. In 2002, she married Don Lake and they lived in Le Mars until 2021 when they moved to Whispering Creek Senior Living in Sioux City. Don died in August of 2023. Dolores moved to Sunrise Retirement in December of 2023.

Survivors include five children: Suzanne Wiltgen of Sioux City, Arnie (Deb) Sitzmann of Grayson, GA, Carl (Jayne) Sitzmann of West Des Moines, IA, Jody (Gina) Sitzmann of Sioux City, and Rosalie (John) Vollmar of Eagan, MN; fourteen grandchildren; thirty two great-grandchildren; daughter in law, Bev Sitzmann of Sioux Falls, SD; siblings in law: Reverend Richard Sitzmann and Connie Christiansen; four step-daughters: Barb (Ken) Becicka, Carol (Mick) Snell, Dianne (Joe ) Rotta, and Nancy (Brian) Balm; and other extended relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; two sons: Donnie in 1975 and Larry in 2023; son in law, Denny Wiltgen; parents in law, Arnold (Ollie) Sitzmann; and siblings in law: Jim (Joan) Sitzmann, Jean Sitzmann, Earl Sitzmann, Lois (Ken) Hardy, Joyce (Roy) Ryan, and John Christiansen.
