Donald Charles Krogman, the son of Henry and Pearl (Hentges) Krogman, was born on November 25, 1940, on a farm in Sioux County, Iowa. He attended school in Alton and graduated from St. Mary's Catholic High School in 1959. After graduation, he joined the U. S. Army Reserve. Following his schooling, he began farming with his father and working part-time at the elevator in Alton. Later, he worked full time for the Farmers Cooperative in Alton, spending most of his years as an agronomist. After his retirement, he continued to help during busy times. He spent over 50 years with the elevator.

He was united in marriage to Mary Ann Sitzmann on September 14, 1963, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church – Neptune, rural Hinton, Iowa. The couple made their home in Alton for many years. In 2005, they moved to their home in Le Mars.

While living in Alton, he was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. After moving to Le Mars, they became members of All Saints Catholic Parish. Don was a charter member of the Alton Jaycees and was a Boy Scout leader for several years. In his spare time, he enjoyed taking care of the Henry Krogman Wildlife Preserve near Alton. Don also enjoyed bowling, golfing, hunting, and gardening. Many people had the opportunity to enjoy the vegetables that came from his garden every year. He loved to fish and took fishing trips to South Dakota, Minnesota, and Canada. He and Mary Ann enjoyed traveling. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and friends.
