Donald H. Henrich, 91, of Merrill, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at the Good Samaritan Society in Le Mars.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 7, 2025, at All Saints Catholic Parish – St. Joseph Church in Le Mars. Father Doug Klein will celebrate Mass. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery – Ellendale, rural Merrill, Iowa. Visitation with the family present will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 6, 2025, at Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars. There will be a Scriptural Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will resume from 10:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. on Friday at the church. Arrangements are with the Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars. Expressions of sympathy can be extended to the family through www.rexwinkelfh.com.
Donald Howard Henrich, the son of Howard and Margaret (Bauer) Henrich, was born on December 15, 1933, in Odebolt, Iowa. He grew up near Odebolt, Iowa, where he attended school.
Following his schooling, he worked at the Odebolt Hatchery, Adams Ranch, Odebolt Elevator, and helped area farmers. He also worked for Gobersen-Smith Construction in Ida Grove, Iowa. In 1959, he and his brother, Ed, started a career in farming near Early, Iowa.
He was united in marriage to Helen Schmitt on February 11, 1961, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Early, Iowa, by Father Carpenter.
In 1968, he sold out of farming and began working for the International Harvester dealer in Wall Lake, Iowa, for about a year before going to work as a farm hand. In the early 70's, they moved to Hinton, Iowa, where Don worked for Don Reilley as a farm hand. A few years later, he went to work for the Farmer's Coop in Hinton. He retired from there in 1996, after 20 years of service. During his retirement years, he helped Dave Probst with farming. Helen passed away on March 12, 2021.
He and Helen were members of Assumption Catholic Church in Merrill for many years. After its closing, they became members of St. Joseph Catholic Church – Ellendale. In his spare time, he enjoyed going to farm shows, toy shows, and rodeos. He also enjoyed playing cards. When he was living in Odebolt, he was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include his 4 children: Dale (Melissa) Henrich of Wisner, NE, Donna Henrich of Ludlow, MA, Doris (Brian) Loutsch of Le Mars, IA, and DeAnn Henrich of Merrill, IA; his grandchildren and great grandchildren: Matthew (Brittni) Henrich and their children, Sadie and Brooks; Michael (Tona) Henrich and their children, Tati, Ava, and Melanie; Mitchell (Jessica) Henrich and their son, Bowen; and Marshall Henrich (Cameron); his brother, Duane (Ellen) Henrich of Chicago, IL; two sisters, Betty (Don) Cox of West Des Moines, IA, and Deloris (Karl) Hering of Omaha, NE; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Helen; and his siblings: Ed (Ruth) Henrich, Jane (Robert) Dimig, and Barb (Doug) Morgan.
