Donald J. Hoffman , 86, of Le Mars, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, January 8, 2022 at Floyd Valley Healthcare in Le Mars.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 13, 2022 at All Saints Catholic Parish – St. Joseph Church in Le Mars.  Reverend Bruce Lawler will celebrate Mass.  Reverend Timothy Pick will concelebrate.  Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Le Mars with military honors provided by the Wasmer American Legion Post 241 of Le Mars.  Visitation with the family present will be anytime after 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 12, 2022 at All Saints Catholic Parish – St. Joseph Church in Le Mars.  There will be a Parish Rosary at 5:00 p.m. and a Scriptural Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m.   Visitation will resume from 9:30 a.m. until service time on Thursday at the church.  Wearing of a mask and social distancing are encouraged, but not required.  Arrangements are with the Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars.  Expressions of sympathy can be extended to the family through www.rexwinkelfh.com .

Donald James Hoffman was born June 13, 1935 on a farm in Plymouth County, Iowa, the son of Bernard and Evelyn (Ernst) Hoffman.  He attended country school at Grant #9.  Following his schooling, he began helping his father farm and raise livestock.

On October 12, 1954, he enlisted in the United States Army.  Following his basic training, he was stationed in Panama during the Korean Conflict.  Following his honorable discharge in 1956, he returned to Plymouth County and continued farming.

He was united in marriage to Marilyn Bohlke on February 17, 1958 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Le Mars.  The couple farmed and milked dairy cows in Plymouth County their whole married life.

Donald was a member of All Saints Catholic Parish in Le Mars.  He was also a member of the Wasmer American Legion Post 241 of Le Mars.  He enjoyed fishing and spending time at their cabin in Alexandria, Minnesota.  While at home, Don accumulated a large collection of lawn ornaments.  He enjoyed keeping them in pristine condition.  He also enjoyed tending to his flower and vegetable gardens.  He was very handy and could build, fix, and repair just about anything.  Dancing and playing cards were also things he enjoyed.

Survivors include his wife of over 63 years, Marilyn of Le Mars; 6 children: Ron (Jan) Hoffman of Remsen, IA, Sharon (Gary) Fischer of Hinton, IA, Rick (Leslie) Hoffman of Le Mars, IA, Randy (Jody) Hoffman of Le Mars, IA, Terry (Christi) Hoffman of Remsen, IA, and Lisa (Rick) Weber of Alton, IA; 19 grandchildren; 42 great grandchildren; his siblings: Arlene (Jerry) Traufler of Le Mars, Judy (Tom) Reuter of Le Mars, Jerry (Judy) Hoffman of Wisconsin, and Mary Schumacher of Hamburg, IA; his in laws: Ray Bohlke of Le Mars, IA, Delores Bohlke of Le Mars, IA, Bonnie Bohlke of Sioux City, IA, and Lois (LaMont) Hageman; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard and Evelyn Hoffman; a son in infancy, Michael Hoffman; a daughter in law, Cami Jean Hoffman; a granddaughter, Angel Hoffman; and several in laws.
