Donald Shea, 70 of Le Mars, Iowa, passed away on April 5, 2019 at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars.
Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 9, 2019 at Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars. Military honors will be provided by the Wasmer American Legion Post #241 in Le Mars. Visitation with the family present will be 3:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m., with a Prayer Service at 6:00 p.m., all at Rexwinkel Funeral Home on Monday, April 8, 2019. Expressions of sympathy may be expressed to the family through www.rexwinkelfh.com.
Donald James Shea was born on March 12, 1949 in Le Mars, Iowa to Gerald and Velva (Alexander) Shea. He was raised and attended school in Remsen, Iowa. Donald worked various jobs until he joined the United States Army on December 18, 1969. He was honorably discharged on December 12, 1972. Donald worked in road construction before beginning a long time career as an owner/operator truck driver. Donald was working a route in Ohio when he met Mary Miller. They were married on November 25, 1989 and lived in Monroeville, Ohio for eleven years. They then moved to Le Mars, Iowa in 2000. Donald retired from trucking in November 2018 due to his health. Donald had been diagnosed with cancer in May of 1996 and had been battling it on and off for over 22 years.
Donald enjoyed watching NASCAR and going to local racing events. He loved motorcycles, cars, and anything with a motor. He also owned and enjoyed shooting guns.
Donald is survived by his wife, Mary; children: Martha (Brad) Snavely of Mansfield, OH, Chris (Dawn) Shea of Washta, IA, and Shawn (Valerie) Shea of Remsen, IA; grandchildren: Jessica, Jason Tyler, Joshua, Gracie, Sophie, Lacie, Clayton, Ethan, Aiden, and Celia; great grandchildren: Scarlett, Lily, Jewel, and Luna; siblings: Barbara Shea of Des Moines, IA, Betty Shea of Altoona, IA, Marilyn (Gary) Music of Council Bluffs, IA, Patricia (Kevin) Kelley, of DeQuincy, LA, Kathy (Bob) Peterson of Altoona, IA, Geraldine Peters of Fredericksburg, VA, Julia Shea of Sioux City, IA; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Donald is preceded in death by his parents.
