Donald W. Hoffman, 59 of Akron, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, December 22, 2020 at Avera McKenna Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

DUE TO BLIZZARD WEATHER CONDITIONS ON FRIDAY, JANUARY 15, 2021 Visitation with the family present will be from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m., SATURDAY, JANUARY 16, 2021 at Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Akron.

A Celebration of Life will be held at later date. Arrangements are with Rexwinkel Funeral Home of Akron.

Donald Wayne Hoffman was born on January 15, 1961 in Akron, Iowa to Donald George and Kathleen (Henrich) Hoffman. Don was raised on their farm in rural Westfield and attended school in Akron. He graduated from Akron High School in 1979. Don enjoyed school, especially shop class, and he was always a good student. He was a great help to his parents on their acreage; he helped with chores, gardening, and canning. He also was a wrestler during his school years. Don worked at a garage in Akron during high school and after graduation he moved to Le Mars and began working as a janitor at Gehlen High School in Le Mars. He then worked at Wells Blue Bunny in Le Mars; first in sanitation and later as a machine operator.

Don was united in marriage to Teresa Sok and they had two children: Donald L. 'DJ' and Amanda. They later divorced.

Don later moved to Westfield and in 1998 he moved to an acreage just outside of Akron.  Don worked at Wells for 27 years; he then worked at Bomgaars warehouse in Sioux City for 10 years, Dakota Treats in Hawarden for 5 years, and then at Master Works Incorporated in Vermillion for a few years.

On November 29, 2001, he was united in marriage to JoAnn Scheitler.

Don was very active in his children's lives; he was always involved and supportive of them being in activities such as 4-H, Brownie Girl Scouts, and was even a troop leader for the Cub Scouts.

Don always had a strong work ethic; he was a gifted handyman and 'jack of all trades'. He helped his father and other relatives with walking beans and bailing hay. He also was able to repair plumbing, electrical work, metal siding/roofing, landscaping, and provide vehicle maintenance.

In his younger years, Don enjoyed coon hunting with his dog, Angel, fishing, trapping, pheasant hunting with his dog, Magnum P.I. (Pheasant Investigator) and deer hunting. He had a love and passion for animals; sheep, rabbits, poultry, and waterfowl. He had a love for animals at a young age and it continued throughout his life; he always had at least a few animals that he was taking care of. Don was a member of the Iowa Poultry Association and their poultry raising business was called D&J Poultry. Don also loved people; he was a thoughtful and detail orientated person who was always willing to help others. He always made sure the job was done right the first time.

Don also loved International Harvester Farmall tractors. He collected the toy tractors and even restored a 450 diesel Farmall.  He also restored a Dodge Dart and many other vehicles over the years.

Don was a long time member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Akron where he was baptized, and confirmed.

Don is survived by his wife, JoAnn; son, Donald L. 'DJ' (Kayla) Hoffman of Inwood, Iowa; daughter, Amanda (Brett) Stolpe of Akron, Iowa; five grandchildren: Skyler M.M. Hoffman, Ellie R. Stolpe. Alara M. Stolpe, Jordyn F. Hoffman, and Haven R. Hoffman; father, Donald G. Hoffman of Westfield, Iowa; mother, Kathleen Johns of Burlington, Iowa; siblings: Irene Hoffman of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Richard (Janet) Hoffman of Homer, Nebraska, James (Roxanne) Hoffman of Westfield, Iowa, and Sharon (Scott) Anliker of Oakville, Iowa; siblings in law: Stan (Jan) Scheitler of Remsen, Iowa, Jeanette Schwartz of Hinton, Iowa, Lyle (Betty) Scheitler of Oyens, Iowa, Roger (Laurie) Scheitler of Las Vegas, Nevada, Judy (Bob) Campbell of Wichita, Kansas, Rose (Dave) Logan of Des Moines, Iowa, and Kris (Kelly) Mroczkowski of Des Moines, Iowa; and many nieces, nephews, and other extended relatives.

Don is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Jack and Amelia Henrich; paternal grandparents: Ray Sr. and Nellie Hoffman; parents in law, Alvin and Caroline Scheitler; stepfather, Arthur Johns; brother in law, Norm Schwartz; niece, Jill Schwartz; and several aunts and uncles.
