Obituary

Dorothy Luschen, 98, of Le Mars, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at Stonebridge Suites of Le Mars.

Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Le Mars. Reverend Steven Broers will officiate. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens in Le Mars. Visitation with the family present will be from 9:30 a.m. until service time and following the services during a time of lunch and fellowship, all at St. John's Lutheran Church in Le Mars. Arrangements are with the Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars. Expressions of sympathy can be extended to the family through www.rexwinkelfh.com.

In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorials can be made to St. Croix Hospice and St. John's Lutheran Church in Le Mars.

Dorothy Mae Witt, the daughter of Alfred and Maidie (Schmidt) Witt, was born on March 22, 1928, in Akron, Iowa. Early on, she lived on a farm near Le Mars, Iowa, where she attended country school. After her father's sudden passing, she moved with her family to Le Mars. She continued her education and graduated from Le Mars Central High School. Following high school, she attended Westmar College in Le Mars. After college, she taught country school.

She was united in marriage to John Luschen Jr on June 3, 1948, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Le Mars. Dorothy was a homemaker for her family until her children were old enough to go to school. She then returned to teaching as the school librarian at Kluckhohn Elementary School in Le Mars. She worked their until her retirement. Her husband passed away on November 30, 2002. Dorothy continued to make her home in Le Mars. For the past year, she has been a resident of Stonebridge Suites of Le Mars.

Dorothy was baptized, confirmed, and married at St. John's Lutheran Church in Le Mars where she was active the ladies aide for many years and enjoyed quilting. She also enjoyed camping and playing cards. Her greatest joy was her family, especially her grandchildren. She loved watching them participate in their activities.

Survivors include her daughter, Renae (Curt) Buss of Le Mars, IA; her son, Keith Luschen of Sioux Falls, SD; 8 grandchildren: Megan (Drew) Vaske, Aaron Luschen, Maddie Luschen, Clayton Luschen, Brennan (Selia) Buss, Koster (Chaise) Buss, Silas Buss (Erika Hoffman), and Dacia (Chris) Fuentes; 5 great grandchildren; a brother in law, LeRoy Anderson of Sioux City, IA; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Maidie Witt; her father and mother in law, John Sr and Martha Luschen; her husband, John Luschen Jr; two grandchildren: Darbi Buss and Alex Luschen; her sister, Marlys (Albert) Tiesler; and her in laws, Ray and Mildred Plueger, Edwin and Winifred TenNapel, and Cleone Anderson.
