Douglas H. Colt, 94 of Akron, IA, passed away on Thursday, September 11, 2025 at the Akron Care Center.
Funeral Service will be 3:00 p.m., Friday, September 19, 2025 at Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Akron with Deacon Richard Port officiating. Private family burial will be at St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery at a later date. Visitation with the family present will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home and will continue until the service time. Douglas Hawley Colt was born on March 5, 1931 to George and Neva (Elliott) Colt in Iowa Falls, IA. Their family moved to North Sioux City when Doug was in the 9th grade and he graduated from Jefferson High School in 1948.
Doug was united in marriage to Vedeane Blanchard on February 6, 1951 at St. Peter Catholic Church in Jefferson, SD and they made their home in Jefferson. Doug was drafted into the United States Army on February 18, 1952. He served in Germany and received the Army Occupation Medal before being honorably discharged on January 26, 1954. Doug worked as a truck driver and retired after forty years.
Doug and Vedeane moved to Akron in 1998 to be closer to family. They were members at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Jefferson and later St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Akron. Doug enjoyed playing golf, bowling, cards, and going camping. Most of all, he loved to spend time with his grandchildren and attend their sporting events.
Doug is survived by two sons: Michael (Lucy) Colt of Akron and Todd (Tammy) Colt of Sioux Center, IA; daughter in law, Carmon Colt of Frederic, MI; seven grandchildren: Christopher (Emily) Colt, Keith (Jaime) Colt, Nicole (Kelly) Turney, Lindsey Flewwellin, Jeremie (Katie) Colt, Tarah (Joe) Kooima, and Tana (Thomas) Stewart; 20 great grandchildren; sister in law, Mary Colt; nieces, nephews, and other extended relatives.
Doug is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Vedeane; son, Mark Colt; and brothers: Gene and George.
