Douglas Vrana, 66 of Sioux Falls, SD and formerly of Westfield, IA, passed away on Saturday, December 21, 2024 at the Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD.
Graveside Service will be at 1:00 p.m., Friday, December 27, 2024 at the Westfield Township Cemetery in Westfield, Iowa. Visitation with the family present will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Friday at Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Akron and will continue until the service time. Douglas Harold Vrana was born on November 3, 1958 in Hawarden, IA to Charles 'Harold' and Marlys (Ross) Vrana. He was raised and attended school in Westfield, IA. At an early age Doug started working for Grave's Construction, formerly of Sioux Falls and currently based in Spencer, IA, where he built bridges on many sites across the Midwest. For a short time he worked at Jolly Time Popcorn in Sioux City but returned to Grave's Construction until his retirement in 2018.
Doug was united in marriage to Renee Cummins on August 25, 1979 at Garden Creek Falls in Casper, Wyoming. With this union two children were born, Nicole and Darla. They made their home in Westfield and later moved to Sioux Falls. Doug was blessed with one grandson Brady, who he cherished dearly.
Doug was an avid outdoorsman; he loved fishing, hunting and shooting trap. He was a long time member of the Dakota Territory Gun Collectors Association and previously a member of the American Trap Shooting Association. Doug also belonged to several gun clubs in the surrounding area. Doug and Renee traveled extensively to many gun shows and gun related events. During his retirement watching all the old tv western shows became his passion.
Doug is survived and will be forever missed by his wife of 45 years, Renee; daughter, Darla (Jason) Schulz; grandson, Brady Schulz; brother, Mike Vrana; brothers in law: Ray (Ivy) Cummins, Joe (Mary) Cummins, and Marvin Cummins; a niece, nephews, and other extended relatives.
Doug is preceded in death by his parents; parents in law: Pierre and Helen Cummins; special grandmother, Laura (Guy Sr.) Ross; and daughter, Nicole Vrana.
