Edgar Nicholson, 83, of Le Mars, Iowa, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, August 25, 2024, at Floyd Valley Healthcare in Le Mars.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, August 29, 2024, at Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars. Reverend Trish Underberg will officiate. Burial will follow at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery in Craig, Iowa. Visitation will begin at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, at Rexwinkel Funeral Home. The family will be present at 5:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue from 9:30 a.m. until service time on Thursday at the funeral home. Arrangements are with the Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars. Expressions of sympathy can be extended to the family through www.rexwinkelfh.com.
In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorials can be in Edgar's name to St. John's Lutheran Church in Craig, Wet Nose Rescue in Le Mars, or to a favorite charity of your choice.
Edgar Francis Nicholson, the son of William 'Buck' and Ida (Mentzer) Nicholson, was born on August 24, 1941, in Struble, Iowa. He attended country school in Grant Township, rural Plymouth County, Iowa, and later high school in Le Mars.
Early on, he worked as a hired man for his uncle. It was during that time, he realized he had a love for farm life.
He was united in marriage to Judy Johnson on June 24, 1961, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Craig. They were blessed with two children, Phil and Steve. Edgar farmed till his retirement. Following his retirement, he stayed interested in what was happening on the farm. Judy passed away February 11, 2023. In November of 2023, Edgar moved to a condo in Le Mars.
He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Craig. He loved his farm animals and his pets. Edgar served on the board for the Craig Coop for many years. He enjoyed being a husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He loved visiting with his farm neighbors and taking his grandkids on summer trips, teaching them about farming. He recently attended the Nicholson family reunion where he enjoyed catching up with everyone.
Survivors include his two sons: Phil (Susan) Nicholson of Akron, IA, and Steve Nicholson of Southaven, MS; 3 grandchildren: Jill (Eric) Gale of Elkton, KY, Nick (Laura) Nicholson of Le Mars, IA, and Matthew (Kourtney) Nicholson of Akron, IA; 10 great grandchildren; and his sister, Dorothy Nicholson of Omaha, NE.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Buck and Ida Nicholson; his father and mother-in-law, George and Tiny Johnson; his wife, Judy Nicholson; a niece, Julie Packett; and a brother and sister in infancy.
