Edna Johnson, 95, of Le Mars, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, August 22, 2024 at Stonebridge Suites of Le Mars.

Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, August 30, 2024 at Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars with Pastor Trish Underberg officiating. Burial will be at St. John's Cemetery in Craig, Iowa. Visitation with the family present will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Friday at the funeral home and will continue until the service time. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. John's Lutheran Church in Craig, Plymouth County Historical Museum, or Care Initiatives Hospice.

Edna Loraine Lubben was born on January 10, 1929 to Henry and Mary (Ommen) Lubben in Plymouth County, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed at Christ Lutheran Church, Grant Township, in rural Le Mars. Edna graduated from Le Mars High School in 1946 and then attended Westmar to receive her teaching degree.

Edna was united in marriage to Lester Johnson on August 14, 1949 at Christ Lutheran Church. They made their home in rural Craig. Edna worked for several years teaching at Grant #8 school before staying home with their three daughters: Gail, Mary, and Kathy.

Edna and Lester enjoyed traveling together, taking trips as far as Canada, Hawaii, and Germany. In their later years, they enjoyed square dancing and playing in card clubs.

Edna enjoyed gardening, sewing, and quilting. She also loved to play cards and scrabble.  She was a long-time member at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Craig where she also taught Sunday School. Edna volunteered at Life Skills, Plymouth County Museum, and was a member of the Women's Farm Bureau, Floyd Valley Hospital Auxiliary, and Brentwood Auxiliary.

Edna is survived by two daughters: Mary (V.R.) Brandenburg and Kathy (Alan) Gunderson; son in law, Kent Jones; grandchildren: Jennifer Brandenburg, Rachel (Luke) Hammer, Bethany (Nick) Raab, and Corinne (Steven) Brouwer; five great grandchildren: Jeremy, Caleb, Molly, Maggie, and Mathias; sister-in-law, Lucille Tanner; and nieces, nephews, and other extended relatives.

Edna is preceded in death by her parents; parents-in-law, Onno and Anna (Popken) Johnson; husband, Lester (1990); daughter, Gail Jones; siblings: Helen (Gert) Haage, Alice (Elmer) Pearson, Marie (Albert Dirks, Simon DeBoom) DeBoom, Lois (Bob) Winecoff; and siblings-in-law: Velda (LaVerne) Benson, Melvin (Lois) Johnson, and Fred Tanner.
