Eileen Ortmann , 92 of Le Mars, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, December 4, 2019 at her home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, December 7, 2019 at All Saints Parish – St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars. Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery in Remsen. Visitation with the family will begin at 4:00 p.m., with a Catholic Daughter's Rosary at 5:00 p.m., and a Scriptural Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m., all on Friday, December 6, 2019 at the church.  Expressions of sympathy may be expressed to the family through www.rexwinkelfh.com .

Eileen Theresa Kayser was born on May 14, 1927 in Emery, South Dakota to Francis and Matilda (Kramer) Kayser. She attended boarding school in Emery through 8 ^th grade.  Her family then moved to Remsen, Iowa after her father passed away unexpectedly.  She attended St. Mary's High School and graduated in 1946.  After graduation, Eileen moved into an apartment in Le Mars and worked in various jobs.  Eileen was united in marriage to Joseph Henry Ortmann on January 26, 1949 and they made their home on a farm in rural Remsen.  They farmed full time taking care of livestock: cattle, hogs, chickens, and dairy cows, and growing crop: corn, oats, and alfalfa. Eileen had a strong work ethic and worked along side Joseph as well as raising their six children. She was an amazing cook; she canned many vegetables and made the best desserts. Joseph passed away on June 11, 1973 in a farm accident.  Eileen stayed on the farm for 14 more years while their son, Tom, continued farming. In 1987, they sold the farm and Eileen moved into Le Mars.

Eileen and Joseph belonged to a card party group during the winter months for many years.  After Joseph passed away, she joined the 'Kitchen Band' who performed skits and music at local nursing homes.  Eileen loved to crochet and quilt; she made a single bed quilt for every grandchild for their 1 ^st Communion and crocheted an afghan for every grandchild for their high school graduation. Eileen was an avid St. Louis Cardinals and Iowa Hawkeyes fan. She was a long-time member of St. Mary's Church in Remsen and later St. James Church in Le Mars.  She was also member of Catholic Daughters of America and Christian Mothers Society.

Eileen is survived by her children: Michael (Kathy) Ortmann of Storm Lake, Iowa, Alice (Vincent) Galvin of Sioux City, Iowa, Philip Ortmann of Sioux City, Iowa, Thomas Ortmann of Le Mars, Valeria (Ken) Brown of Rapid City, South Dakota, and Henry (Brenda) Ortmann of Centerville, Iowa; 12 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; sisters in law: Jeanette Koch, Sandy Ortmann, and Betsy Ortmann; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Eileen is preceded in death by her parents; parents in law: Henry and Regina Ortmann; husband, Joseph; brothers: Paul (Norma) Kayser and Jim (Clara) Kayser; sister, Sylvia (Wayne) Koopman; brothers in law: Donald Ortmann, Reverend Bill Ortmann, Louis Ortmann, and Melvin Koch; daughters in law: Jane Ortmann and Tina Ortmann; and a special uncle, Walter Ortmann.
