Eldon Bray, 75, of Le Mars, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, February 7, 2023, at the VA Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Memorial Service will be held at 6 p.m., Wednesday, April 12, 2023 at Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars. Expressions of sympathy can be extended to the family through www.rexwinkelfh.com
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Royal C Johnson Veteran's Memorial Hospital in Sioux Falls.
Eldon B. Bray was born on December 12, 1947 in Elma, Iowa to Burrell and Lenora (Tezloff) Bray. He graduated from Charles City High School in 1967. He enlisted in the United States Navy on May 2, 1968. Eldon served in Vietnam from February 20, 1969 to February 20, 1970 and was honorably discharged in February of 1972. He began working for Fareway in the meat department in Charles City, Iowa and was transferred to Fareway in Le Mars in 1972. Eldon was united in marriage to Kathleen 'Kathy' Brownmiller on January 12, 1974 in Le Mars, Iowa. They made their home in Merrill and later moved to Le Mars. Eldon worked at Fareway for 14 years and then worked at IBP in Sioux City for 10 years. He then began working for Kolbeck Inc in Le Mars until he retired.
Eldon loved fishing and reading books, especially Westerns and science fiction novels. He also loved animals and had several beloved pet dogs and cats over the years.
Eldon is survived by his niece, Marsha (Bill) Duncan of Charles City, Iowa; nephew, Eric Vetter of Charles City, Iowa; siblings in law: Jeanie Wilken, Dan (LaVonne) Brownmiller, Joyce Brownmiller, and Pam Brownmiller all of Le Mars, Iowa; best friends, Wayne Kolbeck and Nancy of Le Mars; nieces and nephews: Tammi (Alvin) Allmendinger, Irena Scott, Lisa (John) Erdmann, Amy (Gabe) Davis, Brent (Theresa) Brownmiller, Hope (Andy) Majeres, Todd (Carrie) Brownmiller, Bart (Angie) Brownmiller, Brian (Jessica) Brownmiller, Dawn (Nate Renken) Brownmiller, Brett (Jennifer) Brownmiller; and other extended relatives.
Eldon is preceded in death by his parents, Burrell and Lenora Bray; parents in law, Cyril and Audrey (Leesley) Brownmiller; wife, Kathy Bray; sister, Shari (Donald) Vetter; siblings in law: Margaret (Doug) Gaul, Jim Brownmiller, Timothy Brownmiller, and Merle Wilken; and nephews Scott Wilken and Alan Scott.
