Evelyn Mae Kallsen , 91, of Le Mars, Iowa, passed away Sunday, March 15, 2020 at Accura HealthCare in Le Mars.

Due to the present mandated healthcare precautions, this will be a private funeral.  Burial will be in Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars.  Arrangements are with the Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars.  Expressions of sympathy can be extended to the family through www.rexwinkelfh.com .

Memorials can be made in Evelyn's name to St. John's Lutheran Church.

Evelyn Mae Downing was born October 20, 1928 in Le Mars, Iowa, the daughter of Elmer and Frieda (Tanner) Downing.  She attended school in Le Mars and graduated from Le Mars Central High School in 1946.  Following high school, she worked for an insurance company in Sioux City.

She was united in marriage to Lloyd Kallsen on March 16, 1951 at the E.U.B. Church in Le Mars.  The couple made their home in Le Mars.  Evelyn was a homemaker for her family.  Lloyd passed away October 13, 2011.  Evelyn continued to make her home in Le Mars.  In April of 2018, she became a resident of Accura HealthCare of Le Mars.

She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Le Mars where she taught Sunday school and Vacation bible school for many years.  She was also active in church circle for many years.  She enjoyed bowling, traveling, reading, and having coffee with her friends.  Evelyn and Lloyd enjoyed playing cards and were in several card clubs.

Survivors include her 3 children: Gary Kallsen of Ames, IA, Dennis (Cindy) Kallsen of Illinois, and Deb (Mark) Mayrose of Le Mars, IA; 4 grandchildren: Christopher Hisel, Joseph Kallsen, Nathan Hisel, and Libby Kallsen; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Frieda Downing; her husband, Lloyd Kallsen; and her siblings: Betty (Carl) Ahrendt, Dorothy (John) Trobaugh, Virginia (John) Brangwin, and Joyce (Stanley) Nervig.
