Evon "Gus" Puetz , 97, of Le Mars, Iowa, passed away Sunday, August 23, 2020 at the Good Samaritan Society of Le Mars.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, August 27, 2020 at All Saints Catholic Parish – St. Joseph Church in Le Mars.  Reverend Bruce Lawler will celebrate Mass.  The public is invited to attend, social distancing and wearing a mask required.  Services will be livestreamed at www.allsaintslemars.org .  Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Le Mars.  Visitation with the family present will be from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 26, 2020 at Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars.  There will be a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 5:00 p.m. followed by a 4 ^th Degree Chalice Service.  There will be a Scriptural Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m.  Social distancing and wearing a mask required.  Visitation will resume from 9:30 a.m. until service time on Thursday at the church.  Arrangements are with the Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars.  Expressions of sympathy can be extended to the family through www.rexwinkelfh.com .

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Gehlen Catholic School or All Saints Catholic Parish.

Evon James Puetz was born May 4, 1923 on a farm near Ellendale in rural Plymouth County, Iowa.  He attended country school and later high school in Merrill and graduated from Merrill High School.  Following high school, he helped his father on the farm.

He was united in marriage to Annarean Rolfes on January 8, 1946 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Le Mars.  The couple farmed for many years north of Le Mars.  Ann passed away March 27, 2017.

Gus was a longtime member of All Saints Catholic Parish – St. Joseph Church in Le Mars and was past president of the Parish Council.  Gus was a communion minister and lector for many years.  He was past Grand Knight of the 3 ^rd Degree – Knights of Columbus Trinity Council 1466 in Le Mars and was a member of the 4 ^th Degree – Knights of Columbus Father Michael J. McGivny Council 3088 in Le Mars.  The rosary was an important part of his life, praying it at least once a day.  Gus was also past president of Gehlen Catholic School Board and was a member of the Plymouth County Cattlemen's Association and Pork Producers.  He assisted with the Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars for over 20 years.  Gus was involved with various card clubs and enjoyed playing cards with his wife Ann.  He also enjoyed playing golf, fishing, and bowling.  His biggest achievement was the love he showed to his 7 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Survivors include a daughter, Kris (Bill) Gross of Indianola, IA; a son, Bob (Lisa) Puetz of Le Mars, IA; 6 grandchildren: Brad (Carrie) Puetz, Tod (Sara) Puetz, Cory (Kari) Puetz, Erin (Andy) Nizzi, Emily (Ryan) Eton, and Alex Gross; 11 great grandchildren; two siblings: Gene (Lavern) Puetz and Maxine Schnepf; in laws: Lois (Paul) Woll, Jeanie (Norbert) Schmitz, and Terry Rolfes; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Margaret Puetz and Emma (Nuebel) Puetz; his wife, Ann Puetz; his sister, Harriett (Don) Langel; in laws: John Schnepf and Marge Puetz.  His biggest loss was his grandson, Jason Puetz.
