Floyd 'Junior' Waterbury, 89, of Akron, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, March 13, 2025, at Hillcrest Health Care Center in Hawarden, Iowa.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 20, 2025, at Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Akron. Burial with military honors provided by the Hoschler American Legion Post 186 of Akron will be at Riverside Cemetery in Akron. Visitation with the family present will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Akron. In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorials can be made to the Hoschler American Legion Post 186 of Akron and St. Croix Hospice.

Floyd Edward Waterbury Jr, the son of Floyd E. Sr and Genevieve (McMillian) Waterbury, was born on July 31, 1935, in Union County, South Dakota. He attended country school in Union County, South Dakota, and later high school in Akron.  He enlisted in the United States Marines in 1952. After his basic training in the states, he was stationed in Japan during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged in 1956. Following his discharge, he returned to the Akron area and began farming with his father and worked for Van Buskirk Road Construction company.

He was united in marriage to Sharon Kisling on May 10, 1958, in Fremont, Nebraska. The couple lived in several communities while Junior was working road construction.  In 1965, they settled in Akron. Junior continued to work road construction before going to work for Plymouth County Secondary Roads. He worked there until his retirement. Sharon passed away on August 4, 2008.

He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Akron and the Hoschler American Legion Post 186 of Akron. He was also a member of McCook Lake Izaak Walton League. Over the years, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed searching for the next big treasure with his metal detector. His greatest joy was his family, especially his grandchildren.

Survivors include his children: Russel Waterbury, Randy (Joanne) Waterbury, Sam (Macrina) Waterbury, all of Akron, and Kimberly (Terry) Hamblen of Sioux City, IA; 17 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; his sisters, Sandy Osterbuhr of Akron and Beth (Dale) Sykes of Helena, MT; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Sharon Waterbury; a grandson, Tyler Hanno; and two sisters: Audrey Seamands and Joyce Krause.
