Gail Jean Johnson was born on November 14, 1950 to Lester and Edna (Lubben) Johnson in Le Mars, Iowa. She was raised on the family farm near Craig and attended St. John Lutheran Church in Craig where she was baptized and confirmed. Gail graduated from Le Mars Central in 1968 and then attended Augustana College in Sioux Falls. Gail graduated from college in 1972 and finished her degree with an internship at St. Joseph's Hospital in Denver, CO. While living in Denver, Gail met Kent Joseph Jones. They were united in marriage on June 15, 1973 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Denver, CO. They made their home in Denver for a short time before moving to Alamosa, CO, Simla, CO, Colorado Springs, CO, and eventually to Le Mars, Iowa. Gail worked various jobs over the years, but she worked primarily as a medical technologist at several different medical centers: LaJara Hospital in LaJara, CO, Alamosa Hospital in Alamosa, CO, Penrose Hospital in Colorado Springs, CO, Floyd Valley Clinic in Le Mars, IA, and Orange City Hospital in Orange City, IA.
Gail enjoyed baking and gardening; she canned many of the vegetables she grew. She loved quilting and she donated many quilts she made to auctions for the Le Mars Community music boosters. While her daughters were young, she volunteered as a 4-H leader and was an active 'band mom'. She enjoyed reading Christian romance, suspense, and historical books. Gail's faith was very important to her; she often read her bible and most recently enjoyed watching online services by New Hope Evangelical Free Church in Orange City. Family was the most important part of Gail's life; she will be missed as the beloved matriarch of her family and devoted grandma. She loved spending time with her three grandsons and even provided homeschooling for her grandson in kindergarten.
Gail is survived by her husband, Kent Jones; two daughters: Bethany (Nick) Raab of Denver, CO and Corinne (Steven) Brouwer of Le Mars, IA; three grandsons: Jeremy Brouwer, Caleb Brouwer, and Mathias Raab; her mother, Edna Johnson; sisters: Mary (Verdayne) Brandenburg of Sioux Falls, SD and Kathy (Alan) Gunderson of Postville, IA; brother in law, Stuart Jones of Denver, CO; nieces: Jennifer Brandenburg of Minneapolis, MN and Rachel (Luke) Hammer of Minneapolis, MN; nephews: Scott (MaryBeth) Jones of Evergreen, CO and Erik Jones of Denver, CO; and other extended relatives.
Gail is preceded in death by her father, Lester Johnson; and parents in law: Wilfred and Evelyn Jones.
