Gailen Clausen , 57, of Craig, Iowa, passed away Monday, December 23, 2019 at Happy Siesta Care Center in Remsen, Iowa due to complications from Multiple Sclerosis.

Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 27, 2019 at Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars. Pastor Mike Metten from ReJoice Community Church in Le Mars will officiate. Burial will be in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery in Craig, Iowa. Visitation with the family present will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 26, 2019 at Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars. Visitation will resume from 10:00 a.m. until service time on Friday at the funeral home. Arrangements are with the Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars. Memorials can be made in Gailen's name to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society or the Alzheimer's Association of Greater Iowa.

Gailen Lamont Clausen was born November 17, 1962, the son of Gail and Lucymae (Hall) Clausen. He attended school in Le Mars and graduated from Le Mars Community High School in 1981. He attended college in Sioux City and graduated from Morningside College in 1985 with a triple major in accounting, economics, and computer science.

He was united in marriage to Linnea Palmquist Burnett on August 23, 2003 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Craig. To this union, brought 2 children, Nicolas and Sarah.

Gailen worked for Wells Dairy in Le Mars for several years before retiring due to his health. After his retirement, he enjoyed woodworking and candle making.

In his younger years, he enjoyed golfing, fishing, and running. He ran in a marathon on Okoboji. He also enjoyed reading books.

Left to mourn his passing is his wife, Linnea Clausen of Craig, IA; two children: Nicholas (Stephanie) Burnett of Aurora, IL, and Sarah (Tom) Waters of Le Mars, IA; his mother, Lucymae Clausen of Sioux City, IA; 3 grandsons and 3 granddaughters; his sisters: Janice (JC) Lawton of Branson, MO, Sandra (Dale) McMahan of Sioux City, IA, Julia Brockhaus of Moville, IA, Judy Bahler of Pahrump, NV, Terri Clark of Sioux City, IA, Becky Clausen of Sioux City, IA, and Sara Clausen of La Vista, NE; his brother: Gail Clausen II of Van Wert, IA; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father: Gail Clausen; his father and mother in law: Frank and Majel Palmquist; maternal grandparents: John and Catherine Hall; paternal grandparents: Claus and Elsie Clausen; and one aunt and numerous uncles and cousins.
