Gary Bowman, 77 of Akron, Iowa, passed away on Monday, December 11, 2023 at his home.

Memorial Service will be 3:00 p.m., Thursday, December 14, 2023 at Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Akron. Military Honors will follow provided by Albert E. Hoschler American Legion Post 186 of Akron. Gary Lee Bowman was born on October 3, 1946 to Eugene and Vera (Sons) Bowman in Albert Lea, Minnesota. He grew up and graduated from high school in Albert Lea, MN. Gary then enlisted in the United States Navy. After his honorable discharge, he began farming in Minnesota with his brothers. Gary met the love of his life, Karen M. Husmann, at a church singles' event in Minnesota. After a short courtship, they were united in marriage on March 29, 1986 in Akron. Their wedding was a double wedding shared with Karen's sister, June.  They then made their home in Akron, Iowa. Gary worked for over 30 years at Staples in Orange City. After his retirement, Gary spent his time being with and caring for Karen.  Gary loved his family and the time spent with them.  He had great memories visiting his son, Nathan, at ISU and attending football games. When Nathan was young, Gary volunteered as his Cub Scout leader and continued to do so after Nathan graduated.

Gary enjoyed gardening, tending to flowers and growing tomatoes. He also loved to eat; his favorite meal was a great steak! He was an avid Minnesota Vikings fan and was a long-time member of the World Wide Church of God.

Gary is survived by his wife of 37 years, Karen; son, Nathan Bowman of Indianola, IA; sister, Judy (Gary) Degan of Ellendale, MN; brother, William (Sue) Bowman of Ellendale, MN; sister in law, Ann Bowman of Ellendale, MN; siblings in law: David (Linda) Husmann and June (Mark) Heggedahl; many nieces, nephews, and other extended relatives.

Gary is preceded in death by his parents; parents in law, Alfred and Florence (Whiting) Husmann; and brother, Robert Bowman.
