Obituary

Gladys L. Kock, 96, of Le Mars, Iowa, passed away on Friday, January 24, 2025, at the Good Samaritan Society of Le Mars.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, January 31, 2025, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Le Mars. Reverend Steven Broers will officiate. Burial will follow at Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation with the family present will be from 9:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. on Friday at the church and following the services during a time of lunch and fellowship in the church hall.  Arrangements are with the Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars.  Expressions of sympathy can be extended to the family through www.rexwinkelfh.com.

In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorials can be made to St. John's Lutheran Church in Le Mars and St. Croix Hospice.

Gladys Lavoune Steinfadt, the daughter of Herman and Dora (Andriessen) Steinfadt, was born on November 30, 1928, in Le Mars, Iowa. She attended school at Le Mars Central.

She was united in marriage to Clarence Kock on December 18, 1948, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Le Mars. Early on, Gladys was a homemaker for her family. Gladys also worked at Clara Owens Dress Shop and Montgomery Ward Catalog store. Lastly, she worked as a teller and bookkeeper at First National Bank in Le Mars for 25 years. Clarence passed away on August 4, 2011.

Gladys was baptized, confirmed, and married at St. John's Lutheran Church in Le Mars. She was bible school and Sunday school teacher for many years. She enjoyed bowling, sewing, reading, and baking. She and Clarence enjoyed square dancing and were members of the "Country Cousins" square dancing club in Le Mars for many years. She loved spending time with her family, especially with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Survivors include her daughter, Diane (Bill) Widick of Clear Lake, IA, and their children: Shane (Kristen) Grego, and their children, Lauren and Brooke; Kaci (Peter) Brim, and their children, Angelina, Lucas, and Grace; and Amber (BJ) Schumacher, and their children, Payton and Jesse; a daughter, Connie (Dean) De Koter of Bondurant, IA, and their children: Trent (Tracy) De Koter, and their children, Jordan, Logan, and Caden; and Kara De Koter, and her daughter, Jaeda; a son in law, Dr. James Powell of Sioux Falls, SD, and his children: Julie (Dale) Hurt, and their children, Madeline and Danielle; Adam (Wendy) Powell, and their children, Jake and Cali; Alyson (Darren) Palladino, and their children, Ava and Brooklyn; and Michael (Ashley) Powell, and their children, Olivia and Mason; her sister, Mavis Tonne of Fairmont, MN; her brother, Marlan 'Punk' Steinfadt of Le Mars, IA; her in laws, Bonnie Steinfadt of Jefferson, IA, and Virginia Steinfadt of Reinbeck, IA; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Kock; her daughter, Barbara Jo Powell; a great grandson, Ethan De Koter; her parents, Herman and Dora Steinfadt; her siblings: Betty (Lyle) Stinton, Joyce (George) Moritz, Delores (Raymond) Day, Harold Steinfadt, and Donald Steinfadt; her father and mother in law, Ulrich and Anna Kock; and her in laws, Lawrence Harrison, Rudy Tonne, Lloyd Rolling, Raymond Day, and Diane Steinfadt.
