Gloria Jean Klemme was born in Le Mars, Iowa on July 29, 1952 to Norman and Evelyn (Marienau) Klemme. She was raised with her two sisters on their family farm in rural Akron and attended Akron High School.

Gloria was a proud mother to her three daughters: Dawn, Carrie, and Shana. While the girls were young, they first lived in Ireton and then moved to Sioux City where Gloria ran an in-home daycare. As her girls entered school, she began working at MCI in Sioux City. She really enjoyed working at the call center and was primarily in the human resources department. When MCI closed, she then began working for the Akron Care Center in Akron where she was the dietary kitchen manager for many years. She retired from the kitchen and briefly from the Care Center; but not long after she ‘retired’, she began filling in as needed for office help and housekeeping. She was working at the Akron Care Center up until her health began to fail in May 2026.

Gloria was united in marriage to Chuck Dewey on July 14, 2007 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Akron. They made their home on a farm near Akron. Chuck tragically passed away on July 11, 2008. Gloria then moved into Akron to be closer to family.

Family was the most important thing in Gloria’s life. She treasured time spent with her children and grandchildren, never missing a recital or sporting event. She loved unconditionally and always supported those she loved with a quiet strength and fierce devotion.

Gloria loved a trip to Le Mars for a Bob’s hotdog or Sioux City for a little time at the casino. Gloria took great pride in caring for her home, always keeping it tidy and welcoming.

Gloria is survived by her three daughters: Dawn (Jamison) Painter of Sioux City, Iowa, Carrie Gross of Akron, Iowa, and Shana Sanchez of Sioux City, Iowa; three grandchildren: Emily (Blake) Casey, Hunter (Star) Gross, and Alyssa (Richard) McKee; four great grandchildren: Lylliana McKee, Richard McKee IV, Heather Gross, and Elena Casey; sisters: Gail (Bob) Walrod and Ellen Renken; siblings in law: Leanne (Frank) Wingert and Denny (Barb) Kowalke; nieces, nephews, and other extended relatives.

Gloria is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Chuck Dewey; nephew, Chris Walrod; and niece, Melissa Peskey.
