Gunner Wateland, 30, of Akron, Iowa, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, December 7, 2021 at Hawarden Regional Healthcare in Hawarden, Iowa.

His family will celebrate his life on Tuesday, December 14, 2021 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Akron.  Expressions of sympathy can be extended to the family through www.rexwinkelfh.com .

Gunner Matthew Wateland was born April 4, 1991 in Sioux City, Iowa, the son of Scott Wateland and Karen Loeb.  He attended school in Sioux City and graduated from West High School.  Following high school, he attended Flint Hills Job Corps Center in Manhattan, Kansas.  Following his schooling, he returned to Sioux City.  Gunner was the primary caregiver for his mother.  In 2015, they moved to Akron, Iowa.

Gunner loved everything that was animated, especially video games.  He enjoyed playing "Halo" with his friends.  He had a very caring heart and enjoyed helping his neighbors when they needed something.  He also loved his dogs and going downtown in Akron.

Survivors include his mother, Karen Loeb; his father, Scott Wateland; his siblings: Kimberly Wateland and Tyler Wateland; his uncle, Dennis (Dawn) Foster; his nieces: Aspen Moore and Alaska Jaurez; and several other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents; and his great grandparents: Red and Janice Iverson.
