Harriett Marie Monk, the daughter of Simeon and Margaret (Pithan) Monk, was born on June 3, 1935, in Anthon, Iowa. She was raised in Woodbury County, Iowa, where she attended school.

She was united in marriage to Donald Boehm on March 8, 1956, on the stage of the Vista Theater in Storm Lake, Iowa. The couple was selected to be married at the theater and received over $500 in cash and gifts as a promotion of the Storm Lake Chamber of Commerce. The couple made their home in Merrill. Harriett was a homemaker, childcare provider, and she had a unique ability to starch and iron clothing for professionals in the area for extra income. She then went to work for a couple of local companies as a seamstress. Harriett loved to cook and bake. She worked for Hungry's Far North, Vander Meer Bakery, and the Merrill Senior Center until her retirement.

Harriett was a longtime member of St. John Lutheran Church in Merrill where for many years she baked the bread for communion. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, American Legion Auxiliary, Merrill Senior Center, Royal Neighbors of America, and Daughters of the Nile. She was active in the Shrine Auxiliary sewing many dolls which were sold at the Abu Bekr Shrine Circus for many years. The proceeds of which went to the Shriners Hospital for Children in Minneapolis. Harriett took much pride in being one of the representatives to award a check on behalf of the Abu Bekr Ladies Auxiliary.

Harriett played a mean game of cards, and you knew you were playing well if she called you a name and cussed you out. Her greatest joy was her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She especially loved slumber parties every weekend with her grandchildren.

Survivors include her daughters:  Cindy (Mike) Lloyd of Westfield, Lisa Boehm of LeMars, Beth Young of Council Bluffs, and Brenda (Jeff) DeLance of LeMars; her grandchildren: Amanda (Nicholas) Dittmer, Christina Lloyd (fiancé' Chris Davis), John (Carissa) Holton III, Jennifer (Adam) Paulsen, Rob (Paula) Harris, Gina (Mathew) Lewis, Billie Hazzard, Cheyanne (Andrew) Tauke, Jessica (Daniel) Conyers, and Tyler Boehm; 11 great granddaughters, 14 great grandsons; her siblings: Emaline (Darwin) Soloman of Sioux City, Gene (Kathy) Monk of Centerville, Roger (Susan) Monk of South Sioux City, NE, and Donna Whitead of Sioux City, her in laws: Jan Monk of Sioux City, Donna Monk of Sioux City, Bonnie Sparks of Sioux City, and Delores (Boehm) Myers of Warren, Il; and numerous nieces and nephews.
