Harvey Everett Begnoche Sr, 91 of Le Mars, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, January 24, 2023 at his home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 30, 2023 at All Saints Parish – St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation with the family present will begin at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, January 29, 2023 at the Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars with a Scriptural Prayer Service at 5:00 p.m. followed by a Parish Rosary, all at the funeral home. Harvey was born on April 10, 1931 in Elk Point, SD to Archie and Emma (Girard) Begnoche. He was raised in rural South Dakota and attended local country school. Even at a young age, Harvey knew how to work hard and had a dream of owning his own farm one day. He enjoyed riding his horse, Tony, hunting, fishing, and trapping. Harvey enlisted in the United States Navy in 1949; he attended Basic Training in San Diego, was stationed on USS Muliphen for one year, and remained in Reserves for four more years.

Harvey was introduced to the love of his life, Joyce Arlene Harrison, by his little sister, Eileen. They were united in marriage on June 6, 1953 at Sacred Heart Church in Sioux City, Iowa. They made their home and began their family in Illinois for a short while before returning to Sioux City and later Jefferson, SD until 1966 when they moved to a farm northwest of Le Mars. They were married for 64 years before Joyce passed away in 2017.

Harvey always had a strong work ethic and worked in various jobs over the years. He achieved his dream of owning his farm in 1966 when they purchased the farm in rural Le Mars where he raised livestock and crops. He also worked in packing-plants and with other local farmers. He later went back to school and graduated from WITCC in Sioux City as a licensed boiler operator. He worked in boiler maintenance at Teikyo-Westmar in Le Mars and later at North High School in Sioux City.

Harvey had a great sense of humor; he loved watching Red Skeleton with his family along with listening to other great comedians. He enjoyed working with dogs and horses; many of his children worked with the animals for 4-H events. He took a trip to San Diego to go deep sea fishing and enjoyed taking trips to South Dakota for waterfowl hunting. He even took karate classes. In his retirement years Harvey enjoyed his hobbies: gardening, canning and making homemade beer and wine.

Harvey was a member of St. James Catholic Church for 57 years; his faith was so important to him and he enjoyed praying his Rosary daily.

Harvey is survived by ten children: Harvey Jr. (Mary) Begnoche of New Mexico, Susan Copple of Sioux City, IA, David (Leslie) Begnoche of Portage, MI, Monica Johnson of North Sioux City, SD, Linda (Frank) Rojas of Omaha, NE , Therese Hurshman of Butler, MO, Shelley (Ted) Lancaster of Crofton, NE, Tim (Connie) Begnoche of Norwalk, IA, Annette Begnoche of Omaha, NE, and Edward (Tina) Begnoche of Le Mars; 50 grandchildren; 63 great grandchildren; several step-great grandchildren; sister, Carol (Bob) Bliven of Branson, MO; nieces, nephews, and other extended family.

Harvey is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Joyce; a son, Danny Begnoche; sons in law, Mark Johnson and Bill Copple; granddaughter, Natalie Rojas; brother, Cleo (Shirley) Begnoche; and sister, Eileen (Jim) Bush.
