Helen Kenowith, 97, of Le Mars, Iowa, passed away on Friday, November 1, 2024, at Accura Healthcare of Le Mars.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, November 7, 2024, at Grace Lutheran Church in Le Mars. Reverend Timothy Geitz will officiate. Burial will follow at Memorial Cemtery in Le Mars.  Visitation with the family present will be on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars. Visitation will resume from 9:30 a.m. until service time on Thursday at the church. Arrangements are with the Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars. Helen Hattie Reich, the daughter of Carl and Hattie (Briese) Reich, was born on July 6, 1927, in Plymouth County, Iowa. She grew up in rural Plymouth County, Iowa. She attended high school in Le Mars and graduated from Le Mars Central High School.

She was united in marriage to Wayne Kenowith on September 20, 1944, in Le Mars, Iowa. The couple farmed northwest of Le Mars. Helen helped with gathering eggs, milking cows, and doing fieldwork. Following their retirement in 1988, they moved to Le Mars.  Wayne passed away on December 29, 1999. In January of 2020, Helen became a resident of Accura Healthcare of Le Mars.

Helen was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Le Mars. She enjoyed gardening and playing cards. She and Wayne enjoyed visiting with family and friends. They loved to go dancing. On many Saturday nights, after a long day of work, you could find them at a local dance hall. She also enjoyed cooking. She will be remembered for her delicious roast beef dinners.

Survivors include her children: Linda (Ron) Popken of Akron, IA, Gloria (Jack) Lockwood of Port Edwards, WI, and Rodney (Deb) Kenowith of Le Mars, IA; a daughter in law, Diane Kenowith of Sioux City, IA; six grandchildren: Robin (Teri) Kenowith of Irving, TX, Jonathon Kenowith of Liberty, MO, Todd (Tammy) Popken of Akron, IA, Matthew (Rhonda) Popken of Ewing, NJ, Michael Lockwood of Gilbert, AZ, and Daniel (Priscilla) Kenowith of Le Mars, IA; nine great grandchildren; five great great grandchildren; her sister, Shirley Mesner of Le Mars, IA; her sister in law, Coleen Reich of Sioux City, IA; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wayne Kenowith; her son, Orville Kenowith; her brothers: Raymond, Walter, Irwin, Arthur, Robert, Roland, Larry, Eugene, and Charles Reich; and her sisters: Alice Egge, Dorothy DeYoung, and Elsie Reich.

Helen's family would like to thank the staff at Accura Healthcare of Le Mars and St. Croix Hospice for their exceptional care and compassion during this difficult time.
