Ike Pottebaum, 89, of Le Mars, Iowa, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, March 28, 2025. Ike was a man who touched the lives of all who knew him. His legacy of love, care, and unwavering dedication to his family and friends will forever be cherished.

A memorial service will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 3, 2025, at Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars, Iowa. Father Doug Klein from All Saints Catholic Parish will officiate. Visitation with the family will take place from 5:00 p.m. until the service time at the funeral home and fellowship will follow the service. Isidore "Ike" Pottebaum was born on April 23, 1935, to Anton and Anna (Pick) Pottebaum in Alton, Iowa. He grew up on the family farm near Alton and attended St. Mary's Catholic School in Alton. After completing his schooling, Ike worked on the farm, learning the value of hard work and dedication.

In 1954, Ike enlisted in the United States Army and was stationed at Fort Benning, Georgia, during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged in 1956. Upon his return to northwest Iowa, Ike pursued a career as a barber.

On October 13, 1958, Ike married the love of his life, Carol Ahlers, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Granville, Iowa. Together, they built a beautiful life. After living in Granville, Carroll, and Sioux City, the couple settled in Le Mars in 1971. Ike transitioned from barbering to the insurance industry, and later owned and operated Midwest Cattle Oil. His entrepreneurial spirit continued with the founding of Midwest Satellite, which he ran for over 30 years until his retirement.

Ike was a member of All Saints Catholic Parish in Le Mars. Over the years, he enjoyed many hobbies, including bowling, golfing, boating, sailing and spending time at the cabin on Lake Okoboji. Ike had a deep love for animals, especially horses and dogs (who always found him at the dinner table). A man of many talents, Ike was known as a "jack of all trades." He could fix or build just about anything, and he always knew how to bring a joke and smile to any circumstance. His warmth, his wisdom, and his unwavering love shaped the lives of his children and grandchildren.

Ike and Carol shared a special bond, and they loved dancing together, especially after their move to Sioux City. Ike's greatest joy was his family. He was the proud and devoted grandfather who cheered on his grandchildren at every event and was a constant source of love and support.

Ike is survived by his loving wife of over 66 years, Carol, of Le Mars; their son, Al (Debbie) Pottebaum of Le Mars, and their children: Tyler (Chicago, IL), Jonah (Massiel) (Henderson, NV), and Will (Ft. Worth, TX); their daughter, Sandy (Joel) Small of Hinton, IA, and their children: Kaylee (Trent) Baker (Sloan, IA), Kenzie Small (Sioux Falls, SD), and Jay Small (Sioux Falls, SD). Ike is also survived by his siblings: Ivan (Clare) Pottebaum of Granville, IA, Mary Ann (Art) Walker of Lady Lake, FL, and Orville (Mary Ann) Pottebaum of Alton, IA; as well as many in-laws, nieces, nephews, and extended family who loved him dearly.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Anton and Anna Pottebaum; his father and mother-in-law, John and Frances Ahlers; his siblings: Tarsella (Milo) Probst, Berdella (Herb) Schueller, Florence (Ray) Thole, Bernice (Ambrose) Block, Eugene Pottebaum, Howard Pottebaum, Anthony Pottebaum, Donna Rae Krogman, and Arlin Pottebaum; and in-laws, Mary Ellen (Chuck) Erlandsen and Frances Ahlers.
