Irene J. Probst

Irene J. Probst, 92 of Le Mars, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, May 23, 2026 at the Good Samaritan Society - Le Mars.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, June 2, 2026 at All Saints Parish – St. Joseph Catholic Church in Le Mars. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation with the family present will begin at 5:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service followed by a Rosary at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, June 1, 2026 at Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars. There will be one hour of visitation prior to Mass on Tuesday at the church.

Irene J. Rozman was born on July 6, 1933, in Sioux City, Iowa, to Frank and Helen (Kiskus) Rozman. She was raised in Sioux City alongside her brothers, Richard and Edward, and graduated from Heelan High School. From a young age, Irene had a love for music and learned to play both the piano and organ, often sharing her talents by playing for church services. She spent many summers working at the Orpheum Theatre and making treasured memories with her lifelong friends, Gretchen, Vernell, Luene, Sheila, Joan, and Mary Irene.

After high school, Irene attended Creighton University in Omaha, where she earned a four year degree in business. While attending a Catholic dance during college, she met the love of her life, Gerald “Jerry” Probst.

Irene and Jerry were united in marriage on June 18, 1955, at St. Casmir’s Catholic Church in Sioux City. Together they built a beautiful life on their farm west of Le Mars, where they raised their family of six children: Holly, Dave, Pat, Rick, DeeAnn, and Mary. Their marriage was rooted in deep faith, unwavering friendship, and enduring love. They provided a wonderful example to their children through their kindness, laughter, devotion to one another, and Jerry’s well-known habit of always saying “yes” to Irene.

She was a devoted member of St. Joseph Catholic Church for many years, Irene lived her faith daily through service, generosity, and love for her family. Irene and Jerry enjoyed traveling with their close circle of friends, wintering in Florida, and celebrating her Lithuanian heritage. She found joy in life’s simple pleasures: reading books, painting/art, playing cards, shopping, collecting antiques, tending to her flower gardens, and preparing meals for those she loved.

Above all else, Irene cherished her family. Nothing brought her greater happiness than gathering with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was an incredibly proud grandmother to 19 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. Her home was always filled with warmth, faith, laughter, and unconditional love. One of Irene’s greatest joys was holding a new grandbaby/great grandbaby while watching the younger children play nearby.

Irene’s gentle spirit, caring heart, and steadfast love created countless cherished memories that her family will carry with them always. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

Left to honor Irene’s memory are her children: Holly (Clarke) Turner of Hoschton, Georgia/Englewood, Florida; Dave (Nancy) Probst of Le Mars, Iowa; Pat (Theresa) Probst of Alton, Iowa; Rick (Julie) Probst of Grimes, Iowa; DeeAnn (Dan) Schreiner of Atlantic, Iowa; and Mary Probst of West Des Moines, Iowa; her 19 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Vicki Rozman, Rita & Ed Henrich, her cousin Janina Bieriene from Lithuania along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Gerald 'Jerry' Probst; infant son, Jerry; her parents Frank and Helen (Kiskus) Rozman; her in-laws, Gerhard and Susan (Gengler) Probst; brothers, Edward and Richard Rozman; and sisters-in-law, Helen Farr, Agnes Miller, Rosemary Probst, and Louise Sitzmann.

Expressions of sympathy may be extended to the family at Rexwinkel Funeral Home. We ask that in lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. Croix Hospice or Then Feed Just One.
